Should the villa be treated before moving in or after?

Before moving in is far better. If ants appear after you move, removal is harder because your furniture is in place. Preventive treatment before first occupancy saves enormous effort later.

Do the ants come from the building site or from neighbouring villas?

Both. First from the site itself and bare earth. Second from an occupied villa nearby through underground routes. Checking occupied neighbours is necessary.

The site is swarming with ants. Is treating one villa enough?

No, if the whole site is infested. At minimum, the perimeter around your villa must be treated and entry points from the bare ground sealed at foundation level.

Does building on recently filled land make ants more common?

Yes, freshly filled damp soil creates ideal conditions for temporary nests. Ants settle in new fill and migrate through its layers.

Why do ants vanish from the site and then appear in the new villa?

Ants may go dormant in the soil during construction, then wake when building ceases and the villa is occupied and offers food.

Does a new villa need treatment every year?

After initial treatment, new villas are usually safe if well-sealed and crack-free. Annual inspection of damp zones and foundations is worthwhile though.
