Why a bed bug spray usually fails
Three reasons, and between them they explain what happened after the last attempt.
It sits inside the seam, not on the surface
The day is spent wedged into a seam or a screw hole a few steps from the sleeper. A spray passed over the top of the mattress reaches none of it.
The eggs are cemented and covered
Each egg is glued onto fabric or set inside a joint, and a surface residual does not get through it. The room goes quiet for a week, then the bites start again.
A repellent aerosol widens the problem
Over the counter aerosols are repellent, so the survivors move deeper into the wall and into the next room, and one room becomes two.

Bedding is bagged and sealed inside the room, then washed and dried hot. Steam runs along the seams and edges, because heat reaches the cemented eggs that a liquid never will.

A non-repellent product goes onto the harbourage itself, with a dust into voids and screw holes. We do not use a repellent aerosol, because it drives the insect deeper into the wall and into the next room.

Common questions
How many visits does it take?
Usually two: a full treatment of the room, then a follow-up dated on the hatch, which falls a week or two later depending on how warm the room is. Anything that has reached more than one room, or an adjoining unit, needs more than that, and we tell you so after the inspection rather than before it.
Why did the bed bugs come back after treatment?
Small ones appearing days after the first visit is expected: the egg is cemented and covered, so a surface residual never reaches inside it, which is why the second visit is booked on the hatch. A return weeks later usually means a place that was never treated, a sofa or an adjoining room, or a fresh arrival in a suitcase. If the bites are around the ankles and there is a pet in the house, it may be fleas rather than bed bugs, which is a different treatment: Flea control.
Should I throw out the mattress, or sleep in another room?
Neither. Dragging a mattress through the house scatters them along the hallway and into the living room, and the frame and headboard stay infested after it has gone. Moving onto the sofa moves the problem onto the sofa, because they follow whoever is sleeping rather than the room. It is better to stay in the same bed until the visit, and to prepare as set out in how to prepare the space before treatment. A sealed encasement does the work of replacing a mattress in most cases.
Is the treatment safe around children, and do we leave the room?
The application is targeted at seams, joints and voids rather than broadcast across the surfaces anyone sleeps on, and steam does much of the work in a child's room. Ventilation and re-entry depend on the product and the space, so we give you both on the call and do not print a fixed figure here, because it genuinely changes from room to room. We ask for toys and open clothing to be lifted out before we start.
Does having bed bugs mean the home is not clean?
No. They feed on blood, not on crumbs, so housekeeping neither attracts them nor prevents them. They arrive in luggage, in second hand furniture, or through pipe openings from an adjoining unit, and they turn up in immaculate rooms as readily as anywhere else. What matters is treating it early, because the longer it runs the more places they spread into.
Do you treat hotels and furnished apartments?
