Why they keep coming back in Al Hamra Umm Al Jud

In Al Hamra we've noticed that upper floor bedrooms left closed for long stretches, once sons move out or travel, are usually where the first signs of bed bugs turn up when the room is opened again. The method is set out in full on our Bed bug control service.

The first reason

One district, two different building ages

Al Hamra, closer to central Makkah, settled years ago and its villas have collected furniture across generations, while Umm Al Jud, out towards the expressway and the Fourth Ring Road, is still receiving new villas and furniture that arrived only recently, so the check looks for different things at each end.

The boundary wall and private garden around each villa stop bed bugs arriving from next door, but the villa itself often spans a guest wing, an upper floor and a driver's annex, so checking one bedroom is not enough, the insect can move between wings inside the same house without ever leaving it.

Before the Jeddah expressway opened, the Old Makkah Jeddah Road was the route furniture travelled between the two cities, and villas built along it grew room by room as sons married, so one house often holds pieces bought years apart rather than furnished in a single delivery.

How we work

Inspect and map the spread

We strip the bed and work through the mattress and base seams, the frame joints, the headboard and the skirting, then check the upholstered furniture and the neighbouring rooms to see how far it has gone.

Laundry, heat and steam

Bedding is bagged and sealed inside the room, then washed and dried hot. Steam runs along the seams and edges, because heat reaches the cemented eggs that a liquid never will.

Targeted, non-repellent application

A non-repellent product goes onto the harbourage itself, with a dust into voids and screw holes. We do not use a repellent aerosol, because it drives the insect deeper into the wall and into the next room.

Monitoring and the follow-up visit

A sealed encasement goes onto the mattress and the base, with monitors under the bed legs, then we return once the remaining eggs have hatched and re-treat anything still active.

What is different about Al Umrah Sub-Municipality

Al Umrah sub municipality covers the north west of Makkah along the Madinah road and the old Jeddah road, from At Tanim and Masjid Aisha to An Nawwariyah. Its districts are the city's newest, villas and apartment blocks raised on wide schemes where large tracts in Al Umrah Al Jadidah, Al Fayha and Al Buhayrat remain vacant or under construction. Wadi Saraf and Wadi At Tanim run through it and rainwater gathers on unfinished schemes, ihram shops, restaurants and coach stops along the Madinah road serve a constant flow of pilgrims, and villas fill Al Hamra and Umm Al Jud.

Questions about this district

We have a driver's annex behind the villa with its own entrance, does it need a separate check?

Yes, the driver's annex is a self contained sleeping space, and checking only the main house is not enough if the annex is in use, bed bugs can move between the two whenever bedding or visits go back and forth.

The men's majlis has its own outside entrance, is it checked as part of the same visit?

Yes, the majlis is included even though it has its own door, its upholstered chairs receive guests regularly, and checking them matters just as much as checking the bedrooms inside the house.

Our son works at the Kiswa complex nearby and sometimes brings home fabric offcuts, does that need checking?

The fabric itself is not a known source of bed bugs, but if it ends up stored in a bedroom or wardrobe, that corner is worth including in the regular check rather than left out.

The villa has a rear service gate for deliveries straight to the kitchen, do those rooms need checking separately?

Rooms near the service gate fall inside the normal check, any parcel or piece of furniture passing through carries the same risk as anything coming through the front of the house.

We keep old furniture in the villa's basement store instead of throwing it out, does it need checking periodically?

Stored furniture can sit untouched for years, but before any of it goes back into a bedroom it is worth checking on its own, since being left alone that long does not mean it is clear.

A grandfather's wing and his married son's wing share one villa with separate entrances, are they checked together or apart?

Each wing has its own bedding and furniture even under one roof, so bed bugs found in the grandfather's wing do not automatically mean the son's wing is treated too, it gets checked on its own first.
