We strip the bed and work through the mattress and base seams, the frame joints, the headboard and the skirting, then check the upholstered furniture and the neighbouring rooms to see how far it has gone.

Bedding is bagged and sealed inside the room, then washed and dried hot. Steam runs along the seams and edges, because heat reaches the cemented eggs that a liquid never will.

Targeted, non-repellent application

A non-repellent product goes onto the harbourage itself, with a dust into voids and screw holes. We do not use a repellent aerosol, because it drives the insect deeper into the wall and into the next room.

Monitoring and the follow-up visit

A sealed encasement goes onto the mattress and the base, with monitors under the bed legs, then we return once the remaining eggs have hatched and re-treat anything still active.

What is different about Briman Sub-Municipality

Briman sub-municipality sits east of the Haramain expressway on Jeddah's north eastern edge. Its older quarters are planned grids of villas and walk-up flats, while the outer districts are new subdivisions still being built out. Seasonal wadis such as Wadi Umm Hablain and Wadi Al Asla cross the area, groundwater runs high in places, and drainage networks in the newer districts are incomplete, so soil around foundations stays damp. Vacant plots, live building sites and constant dust give crawling insects and rodents easy routes into homes, and the food outlets along the main arteries keep them supplied.

Questions about this district

We move bedroom furniture between our house in Al Ajwad and our flat in Al Manar. Does it need checking?

Checking it before it goes into use stops anything travelling between the two homes. The road between Al Ajwad and Al Manar is short, so pieces tend to move back and forth often, and it is easy to skip a check when the trip feels routine.

Our villa is surrounded by newer budget apartment blocks on the same street. Does that raise the risk?

Density on its own does not move bed bugs. What matters is how often the flats around you change hands: more turnover next door means more chances for an infestation to arrive in the area, so checking your own bedding and any furniture near shared walls stays worthwhile even without a sighting.

The room above our shop is rented, with a new tenant every few months. Should it be checked between lets?

Checking the bedding and frame each time one tenant leaves and before the next moves in stops anything arriving with old luggage from spreading into the shop below or the flats next door.

Relatives from Al Samir visit to shop at Al Manar Plaza and nap on our sofa. Does it need checking?

A short nap rarely moves bed bugs, since they travel slowly and need direct contact with bedding or upholstery over time. If the same visit and the same sofa happen weekly though, a periodic check is worth adding to the routine, just in case anything has built up unnoticed.

I work at an Al Yasmin Mall shop and sleep nights in the back rest room. Does it need checking?

A rest room used by more than one staff member at different hours is exactly the kind of shared bedding that lets bed bugs move between people, so it is worth checking on its own schedule, separate from any check at home.

A ground floor room of our villa is rented out as a small shop. Does that isolate the bedrooms above?

The structural separation between a ground floor shop and the floor above lowers the risk but does not remove it. If the tenant stores furniture or rests on a chair during the day, it is worth including that room in the periodic check of the bedding upstairs.
