How we work

Inspect and map the spread

We strip the bed and work through the mattress and base seams, the frame joints, the headboard and the skirting, then check the upholstered furniture and the neighbouring rooms to see how far it has gone.

Laundry, heat and steam

Bedding is bagged and sealed inside the room, then washed and dried hot. Steam runs along the seams and edges, because heat reaches the cemented eggs that a liquid never will.

Targeted, non-repellent application

A non-repellent product goes onto the harbourage itself, with a dust into voids and screw holes. We do not use a repellent aerosol, because it drives the insect deeper into the wall and into the next room.

Monitoring and the follow-up visit

A sealed encasement goes onto the mattress and the base, with monitors under the bed legs, then we return once the remaining eggs have hatched and re-treat anything still active.

Yes, cement dust can settle over the seam and hide the marks we look for, so we clean the surface first and inspect closely rather than judging an active site by what is visible at a glance.

We brought our old children's bed from our house before it was demolished on the slope, does it need checking?

Bed bugs travel with the timber and stuffing, not the neighbourhood, so a bed that comes out of a demolished hillside house should have its seams and joints checked before it goes into the new room.

Workers building the house next door sleep in a room on the vacant plot beside us, is that a risk?

A temporary room that close to a bedroom wall is worth including, so we check the shared wall and the nearby bedding together whenever a vacant plot next door is being used to house labourers overnight.

Dust and sunlight do not kill bed bugs or their eggs, so washing alone is not enough. We recommend checking any bedding or cushion bought from the open market before it comes into the house.
