Cockroach control in Al Taqwa Makkah

Al Taqwa runs along the southern edge of Misfalah at Qoz Al Nakasah, where a busy traditional souk full of food shops meets grant plots being built up the mountain slope. That mix gives cockroaches two sources at once: the stores and cartons of the market, and the exposed drains of new construction on the incline, and both feed the homes nearby.

  • Targeted, not broadcast

Product goes into cracks and runways, never sprayed across open surfaces.

  • Told before we start

What we will use, where it goes, and what to cover or move before we arrive.

  • A follow-up visit

We return after the first treatment, because what survives it does not show on the day.

  • Homes and businesses

Apartments and villas, and kitchens and stores that need a record of each visit.

Why they keep coming back in Al Taqwa

In Taqwa homes close to the souk, we usually find German cockroach nests inside stored goods cartons and grocery bags, not in the kitchen alone. The method is set out in full on Cockroach control in detail.

The first reason

The souk beneath the homes

The grocers and eateries of Taqwa's market keep food and cardboard in warm, damp storage, which makes a permanent reservoir for the German cockroach. From there it travels along produce, shared pipework and service gaps into the flats above and around them, so treating one kitchen alone never holds.

The second reason

Grant plots built on the incline

On these grant plots a finished house often sits beside an active building site on the slope. Rocky ground, rubble fill and unfinished blockwork leave voids and cracks, while the works next door push cockroaches toward the nearest occupied home with water and food. The newest house tends to inherit them.

The third reason

Old drainage serving new houses

The market core is old, its pipework tangled and patched, yet the new grant houses tie into that same network. The gap in age leaves loose joints and open manholes, and it is up these that the American cockroach climbs at night into kitchens and bathrooms. Age of the drains, not tidiness, sets the pattern here.

Before treatment

The species and the place decide the method

Building on a mountain slope means water and waste run downhill toward the lower part of the district, so moisture collects around the manholes and pipes at the bottom. That standing damp is exactly the setting the American cockroach prefers.

A small light brown German cockroach

German cockroach

Thrives in the souk's shops and stores, then reaches Taqwa flats hidden inside cartons and bags of goods, settling in the kitchen near warmth and water.

A larger dark cockroach on a wooden surface

American cockroach

Larger and darker, it lives in the slope's manholes and the drainage at the foot of the district, climbing into homes built on the incline through floor openings after dark.

An oven and gas hob beneath wooden shelving

Appliance heat

The fridge, oven and washing machine motor stay warm around the clock, turning into an ideal shelter where the German cockroach gathers and lays its egg cases out of sight.

A kitchen with a fridge; the gap behind it is a classic nest

The gap behind the fridge

The narrow space behind the fridge traps warmth, damp and food crumbs together, which is why it is the first spot we check in Taqwa homes.

A tap carrying water droplets

Water before food

Cockroaches seek water before food, and in Makkah's heat that drives them to bathroom and kitchen leaks and the damp pipes running down the slope.

A dimly lit kitchen at night

What you see at night

The one you see at night near the market or the kitchen is one of many hidden; when they appear by day, the hiding places can no longer hold them all.

How we work

  1. 1

    Inspect and identify

We work through the kitchen, the bathrooms and the drain runs, and establish the species, the harbourage points and the moisture keeping them there.

  2. 2

    Treat the harbourage

Gel bait into joints and cracks, targeted spray where it is warranted, and dust in the dry voids behind appliances.

  3. 3

    Close what can be closed

We point out the gaps, the drain entries and anything needing a plumber, because exclusion does more to stop a return than repeating the spray.

  4. 4

    The follow-up visit

We come back once the surviving egg cases have hatched, check the points and re-treat where needed.

What cockroach control includes

  • A technician inspecting with a flashlight

    A recorded inspection

Species, harbourage points and moisture sources, established before anything is applied.

  • A gloved hand applying bait into a joint

    Placed gel bait

In cabinet joints, cracks and behind appliances, where the insect actually travels.

  • A spray nozzle in close detail

    Targeted spray where needed

On runways and junctions, never on preparation surfaces or open floors.

  • A metal floor drain

    Drain and entry treatment

Floor traps, shafts and pipe entries, which is where the larger species comes from.

  • A clean kitchen counter after treatment

    Aftercare instructions

Ventilation, what to cover, and when surfaces can be cleaned without undoing the work.

  • The visit report being written on a clipboard

    A scheduled follow-up

A set date after the first treatment, and re-treatment of anything still active.

Questions about this district

Do the shops below my flat cause the roaches?

Often yes. Grocers and eateries are a steady source of German cockroach, and it moves up into the flats above through pipework and service openings. We treat the route it travels, not just your flat, and where needed we advise coordinating with the shop owner so the reservoir below is dealt with too.

Does the building site next door bring them?

Yes. Construction on the grant plots disturbs the ground and opens up drains, so cockroaches move off to the nearest occupied home with water and food. We seal entry points at doors and pipe openings and set bait along the path they take in from the site.

Our house sits low on the slope, does that matter?

It matters a good deal. Water and waste run down to the lower part of the district, so damp settles around your house and draws the American cockroach from nearby manholes. We focus on floor openings, drains and the line around your doors to close its way in.

A shop nearby was sprayed, why did they come to me?

Because surface spraying in one unit drives cockroaches into the neighbours instead of ending the nest. Unless the source is treated with bait in the shop and the connected homes together, the problem simply shifts from door to door through the souk.

Does the old pipework in the market make it worse?

Yes. The pipes in the market core are old and tangled, and their loose joints open a path for the American cockroach between shops and homes. We inspect the internal drains and manholes and close what we can reach, with bait at the points that cannot be sealed.

We are moving into a new grant house, how do we avoid them?

Check furniture and cartons before they go in, since the German cockroach travels inside them easily, especially anything from the souk's shops. Ask for the kitchen and the backs of appliances to be inspected before you furnish, because treating an empty house is faster and more thorough than treating one already full.

How much does cockroach control in Al Taqwa cost?

It is set after the inspection, because the price follows the type of infestation, the size of the space, how far it has spread and the number of visits it needs. Send a photo and a description on WhatsApp and we will give you an estimate before we reach Al Taqwa.
