Wadi Uranah and seasonal water retention

Wadi Uranah and its tributaries cross the neighbourhood. Low ground holds water after rain. Pigeons arrive to drink from pools and seasonal runoff and nest in the first finished villas. This begins before 20 percent of the scheme is built.

The third reason

New villas and open apertures and temporary windows

New villas have unfinished openings and windows that may be temporary doors or unglazed. Pigeons enter through apertures and balconies and test every space. An empty villa offers them countless hiding and safe spots.

Survey the roof and the facade

We walk the roof, the projections, the condenser platforms and the shafts, separate the nesting positions from the perching ones, and measure and photograph every ledge.

Strip the nests and treat the parasites

Droppings are wetted before they are lifted so nothing goes airborne dry, bagged closed, and the nest position is treated for ticks and mites before the surface is sanitised.

Close and fit

Netting tensioned on a perimeter wire with no gap at the corners, spikes or wire on the narrow projections, metal mesh across vents and shafts, and the roof drains freed of the nest material packing them.

The follow-up visit

We come back to check the tension, the corners and any position the flock has moved to, and correct what has slackened before a bird finds it.

What is different about South Makkah Sub-Municipality

South Makkah sub municipality is the belt of Crown Prince schemes south of Al Ukayshiyah, along the Al Laith road and the extension of Ibrahim Al Khalil Road to the Fifth Ring Road and the Non Muslims bypass. Most of it is still bare: granted plots awaiting houses, new villas standing alone, open building sites and unfinished paving and drainage. Wadi Uranah and its tributaries cross the low ground and hold water after rain, hills close it in, and rodents, reptiles and scorpions shelter in stacked materials and foundation pits before the neighbourhoods fill up.

Questions about this district

The villa is brand new; why do pigeons come before we move in?

An empty villa offers protected spaces and wadi water is available seasonally. Pigeons test each new villa and choose what suits them. We fit deterrents before occupancy if you ask, or remove nests later if they appear.

The district is new and building is ongoing; is treatment different from finished neighbourhoods?

Yes. Pigeons arrive at unpredictable times and waste and water change. We may need treatment twice: before occupancy and after building finishes. We write a report documenting site condition and water sources.

The wadi sits beside the villa and water remains after rain; should I block the wadi?

The wadi is seasonal and you cannot block it. But water attracts pigeons, so we focus on protecting the villa, ledges, balconies and windows. You can reduce garden watering if it is irrigated but the seasonal wadi is beyond control.

The villa is close to the shore and salt water corrodes metal; do barriers rust quickly?

If the villa sits at safe distance from the coast that is adequate. If very close we may use brass or plastic deterrents that do not rust. We choose materials based on salt proximity and moisture levels.

Excavations and exposed pipes provide routes for insects; will they enter the villa?

Yes. Pipes and gaps offer routes for insects and rodents before work finishes. We focus on closing main openings from inside. Pipes and excavations are the builder's responsibility.

Is it better to fit barriers now or wait until construction is finished?

If the villa will finish soon wait. If it will sit empty for months and you see regular birds, fit now. An occupied villa with daily activity deters birds more than an empty one.
