Yes. The hotel kitchen and store are a steady source of German cockroaches, and they climb through the pipework and cracks into the flats above. That is why we inspect the building's vertical line, not your flat on its own, and place bait at the crossing points between floors.

Can cockroaches climb up the drains as the ridge slopes?

The American cockroach in particular moves upward through the sloping drain lines and shows up on the lower floors first. We treat the drain openings and traps and seal the entry gaps around the pipes, so it cannot reach you from below.

We host guests in the pilgrimage seasons, how do we avoid bringing them in?

Luggage and grocery bags are the most common way a German cockroach reaches a home. Check bags in a lit entrance, keep food sealed and wipe up any water leak. If one does get in, we trace where it came from and place bait before it can breed.

The steady damp on a wall pressed against rock gives a cockroach the water it needs, and the settlement cracks in it shelter the eggs. We work bait into those cracks and reduce the source of moisture as far as we can, because a spray on its own will not dry the wall.

A flat below us was treated, will they move up to us?

They can move away from a treatment towards the neighbouring floors through the shared pipework. It is better to treat the building as one unit, or at least to seal the crossing points in your flat and set bait at them before the insects arrive.
