Cockroach control in Al Jumayzah Makkah

Al Jumayzah sits on Al Hujoon street, minutes from the Haram, and much of it is furnished flats and small hotels that house Umrah pilgrims all year round. Guests change constantly, and every suitcase can carry German cockroach egg cases from another kitchen in another city. So the problem here does not start inside one building: it is carried in from outside, again and again.

  • Targeted, not broadcast

Product goes into cracks and runways, never sprayed across open surfaces.

  • Told before we start

What we will use, where it goes, and what to cover or move before we arrive.

  • A follow-up visit

We return after the first treatment, because what survives it does not show on the day.

  • Homes and businesses

Apartments and villas, and kitchens and stores that need a record of each visit.

Why they keep coming back in Al Jumayzah

In flats that turn over from one guest to the next, most infestations we see begin in the small kitchen drawer and behind the water heater, where pans are left and daily cleaning rarely reaches. The method is set out in full on our Cockroach control service.

The first reason

Suitcases that change every week

The flats and hotels here take in new guests constantly, from every country, and their luggage arrives from other kitchens and other hotels. German cockroaches travel as egg cases tucked into bags, so they keep being introduced even after you have closed off one source inside the building.

The second reason

Small kitchens stacked on each other

A single building here can hold dozens of small kitchens, each cooked in every day, with warmth and damp on every floor. That gives cockroaches many harbourages close together, and treating one storey does nothing if the flat above it or below it is left alone.

The third reason

Old buildings, shared drains

Near Al Hujoon a lot of the housing is old and built wall to wall, with waste pipes shared between flats. American cockroaches climb up from those drains after dark, which is why we look first at floor gullies and light wells, not at the kitchen alone.

Before treatment

The species and the place decide the method

Many of the buildings near Al Hujoon are old and packed tightly together, sharing drainage runs and air shafts between their floors. What is cleared in one flat can return to it through a waste pipe shared with the neighbours next door.

A small light brown German cockroach

German cockroach

The commonest species in Al Jumayzah's furnished flats. It rides in with guests' luggage and settles into the small kitchen drawers and the folds of cupboards beside the cooker.

A larger dark cockroach on a wooden surface

American cockroach

It climbs up from the shared waste pipes of the old buildings near Al Hujoon, and shows itself at night in light wells, stairwells and the entrances of blocks.

An oven and gas hob beneath wooden shelving

Appliance heat

The water heater and the small fridge in a furnished flat stay warm around the clock, and that steady warmth makes them a refuge for cockroaches between one guest and the next.

A kitchen with a fridge; the gap behind it is a classic nest

The gap behind the fridge

Behind a furnished flat's fridge is a space rarely cleaned between guests: warm, dark and close to food. It is often the first place a fresh infestation breeds unseen.

A tap carrying water droplets

Water before food

Before food scraps, a cockroach needs water. The damp of a shared bathroom and a small kitchen sink in these flats is enough for it, so we dry those points out before we bait.

A dimly lit kitchen at night

What you see at night

One cockroach in the shared stairwell at night usually means a whole block is infested, not a single flat, because the corridors and risers connect the units to each other.

How we work

  1. 1

    Inspect and identify

We work through the kitchen, the bathrooms and the drain runs, and establish the species, the harbourage points and the moisture keeping them there.

  2. 2

    Treat the harbourage

Gel bait into joints and cracks, targeted spray where it is warranted, and dust in the dry voids behind appliances.

  3. 3

    Close what can be closed

We point out the gaps, the drain entries and anything needing a plumber, because exclusion does more to stop a return than repeating the spray.

  4. 4

    The follow-up visit

We come back once the surviving egg cases have hatched, check the points and re-treat where needed.

What cockroach control includes

  • A technician inspecting with a flashlight

    A recorded inspection

Species, harbourage points and moisture sources, established before anything is applied.

  • A gloved hand applying bait into a joint

    Placed gel bait

In cabinet joints, cracks and behind appliances, where the insect actually travels.

  • A spray nozzle in close detail

    Targeted spray where needed

On runways and junctions, never on preparation surfaces or open floors.

  • A metal floor drain

    Drain and entry treatment

Floor traps, shafts and pipe entries, which is where the larger species comes from.

  • A clean kitchen counter after treatment

    Aftercare instructions

Ventilation, what to cover, and when surfaces can be cleaned without undoing the work.

  • The visit report being written on a clipboard

    A scheduled follow-up

A set date after the first treatment, and re-treatment of anything still active.

Questions about this district

I run a furnished flat for pilgrims. How do I keep cockroaches out as guests come and go?

You cannot inspect every suitcase, but you can remove what draws them in. We place bait in the kitchen drawers and behind the appliances, and seal the cupboard cracks and the gaps around pipe entries, so any infestation that arrives dies off before it can spread through the building's other units.

I treated my flat and now the neighbour in the building has them. What now?

In the tightly built blocks near Al Hujoon, shared waste pipes link the flats, so survivors from your neighbour's flat can travel to yours. The result lasts far longer when a whole storey is treated together, or at least when the drain entries between the two flats are sealed.

Can the small hotel be treated without moving guests out?

Usually yes. We work with targeted bait in the kitchens and corridors, which is approved for use in occupied spaces, so guests need not be moved. We concentrate on the units that are empty between bookings, which lets us reach the places that are hard to treat while a room is occupied.

The flat's little kitchen is used heavily. Is spraying it enough?

Spray alone will not hold in a kitchen cooked in every day, because the German cockroach hides inside drawers, hinges and appliances. We combine a bait that reaches those hiding places with crack treatment, then return to close off whatever egg cases hatch after the first visit.

The flat's furniture is second hand and moves between units. Could that be the cause?

It can be. Cupboards and beds move between the flats in a building and carry egg cases stuck into their corners and joints. We check moved furniture and treat its cracks, and we advise inspecting any piece coming from a unit that was infested before it goes into a clean flat.

I see a cockroach in the building entrance at night. Is treating the entrance enough?

The entrance and stairwell are usually a route, not a source. The American cockroach climbs from the waste pipes beneath the building, so we start at the light wells, floor gullies and drains rather than the entrance alone, to reach where it is actually breeding.

How much does cockroach control in Al Jumayzah cost?

It is set after the inspection, because the price follows the type of infestation, the size of the space, how far it has spread and the number of visits it needs. Send a photo and a description on WhatsApp and we will give you an estimate before we reach Al Jumayzah.
