Why they keep coming back in South Obhur

The large American cockroach comes from the garden gullies and the waste lines near the creek, and on humid nights it climbs into the ground floor through the bathroom and kitchen drains.

Appliance heat

In a rest house the fridge and freezer keep running while the unit is locked up, so the warmth at the back becomes the refuge where roaches breed with nobody there to see them.

Nobody shifts the chalet fridge for weeks, so the gap behind it stays warm, dark and damp, and it is the first place we check rather than the last.

Water before food

Coastal humidity, condensation on the villa air-conditioners and garden irrigation put water in every corner, so a drip from an AC unit or a bathroom is enough for a roach long before it goes looking for food.

What you see at night

On the first night back at the chalet you see one crossing the tiles near the drain; that is not a beginning but proof of a generation that lived here while you were away.

We work through the kitchen, the bathrooms and the drain runs, and establish the species, the harbourage points and the moisture keeping them there.

Gel bait into joints and cracks, targeted spray where it is warranted, and dust in the dry voids behind appliances.

We point out the gaps, the drain entries and anything needing a plumber, because exclusion does more to stop a return than repeating the spray.

My chalet stays shut for weeks. Will the treatment hold?

Yes. The bait keeps working after we leave and after the unit is locked, so it reaches the roaches that come out while the place is empty. We set the treatment around a long absence and schedule a follow-up visit close to your next opening, to close off whatever has hatched in the meantime.

The roaches are coming in from the garden. What can be done?

The villa garden, its irrigation and its drains are the way in for the American cockroach at ground-floor level. We treat the outside gullies, the irrigation outlets and the thresholds of the doors that open onto the garden, not just inside the kitchen, so we cut the route before it reaches the house.

The unit is brand new and we have only just moved in. Where did they come from?

In the new projects roaches arrive with the furniture and the boxes on moving day, or through drainage lines that link your unit to others before you ever lived in it. We check what has recently come in and the points where the plumbing connects, because a clean new unit does not keep them out.

Does the sea humidity make the problem worse?

Yes. Close to the creek the air stays damp and water condenses on the air-conditioners and pipes, and that constant moisture lets roaches last longer. So we start with the sources of damp, a leaking AC unit, a bathroom drain, a sweating pipe, before any bait or spray.

My neighbour at the resort treated his unit. Is that enough?

If you share a wall or a drainage line in a resort or compound, roaches can move from his unit into yours through the shared pipework. We close the crossing points on your side and treat the run of the pipes, not only the surfaces you can see.

We bought furniture for the new villa. Could it bring roaches?

Second-hand or long-stored furniture can carry egg cases in its joints and seams, so it enters the villa looking perfectly clean. We check the hidden joints and corners of anything recently brought in and treat them before what is inside hatches in its new spot.
