Why they keep coming back in Al Asalah

In Al Asalah's new blocks we notice the occupied flats are hit first, by way of the empty units next door that nobody has moved into and nobody has treated yet. The method is set out in full on our Cockroach control service.

The first reason

Building work that has not finished

The construction sites around Al Asalah turn the soil and break open drainage runs, which pushes American cockroaches to look for shelter in the first completed building they reach. We start at the outer boundary and the manholes before we ever get to the inside of your home.

The second reason

Villas with gardens and new irrigation

The new villas in Al Asalah come with gardens, irrigation lines and water tanks, all of which keep permanent moisture at the foundation. The American cockroach lives out there, well away from the kitchen, and comes in at night under door thresholds and through service openings in the wall.

The third reason

Blocks that are only half lived in

Many units in Al Asalah's new blocks are still empty, and shared pipe runs and air shafts link them together. The German cockroach crosses from one flat to the next through those cavities, so treating your flat on its own is never enough while the units around it stay untouched.

Al Asalah sits close to the Abhur coast, which means higher humidity and sandy ground, and its drainage network is new and not yet settled, so manholes and floor drains stay an open route for the American cockroach.

Appliances freshly fitted in Al Asalah's kitchens hold warmth behind their motors, and that warmth draws the German cockroach in to hide and lay its egg cases close by.

The fitted kitchens in Al Asalah's villas leave a narrow, warm gap behind the fridge, an ideal spot that daily cleaning never reaches and where a colony can build up unseen.

Water before food

Before cockroaches look for food they look for water, and the new bathrooms and air-conditioning condensate in Al Asalah hold enough moisture to keep them going for days.

Questions about this district

Can a brand new villa really have cockroaches?

Yes. A recent build does not mean an empty one. The fresh drainage, the turned-over ground around Al Asalah and the materials carried in during construction can all bring cockroaches in before you have finished furnishing. We inspect the foundation and the drains, not the kitchen alone.

There is a building site next to us, does that make it worse?

Often, yes. Digging foundations and breaking drains on the neighbouring plots drives cockroaches out of their harbourage, and they head for the nearest lived-in building. We treat the outside entry points and lay a barrier at the boundary, rather than working inside the unit alone.

I moved furniture and appliances into my new home, what should I watch for?

The German cockroach travels hidden in furniture, cartons and second-hand appliances. Check behind drawers and motors before you bring anything in, and tell us if you have bought used pieces, so we can concentrate the treatment on the kitchen and the points where cables enter.

Does the villa garden and its irrigation attract cockroaches?

Yes, the American cockroach in particular. Frequent irrigation, garden tanks and planter beds keep the ground damp at the foundation, which becomes a permanent harbourage. We bring the outdoor moisture points under control and treat the openings it uses to come inside after dark.

The flat next to mine is empty and untreated, what can we do?

Empty units in Al Asalah's new blocks make a quiet harbourage, and from there the German cockroach crosses through the shared pipes and air shafts. We seal the crossing points inside your flat and advise treating the stairwells and shared risers with your neighbours or the building manager.

I move in soon, should I treat before living there?

Treating before the furniture arrives is easier and cleaner: the kitchen and bathrooms are empty and the entry points are exposed. In Al Asalah's recently handed-over buildings we check the drains and the cavities behind the cabinets and close them off before cockroaches settle in on your first day.
