Gecko control in Al Abidiyah Makkah
Al Abidiyah is the main modern campus of Umm Al Qura University on the Taif road south east of the city, overlooking the plain of Arafat. Colleges, a sports stadium, the university library and student housing sit on spacious grounds. Wadi Uranah passes through the district and open rocky ground offers natural shelter for geckos.

Why they keep coming back in Al Abidiyah
The university campus is new and well built but surrounded by open rocky land and wadis. New students arrive from different regions and the residential blocks are recent. Geckos shelter in the rocks and wadis outside the campus then enter the blocks. The method is set out in full on our Gecko control service.
Rocky ground and wadis surround the campus
The university campus is new and well isolated, but open rocky land and wadis surround it. Wadi Uranah runs through. Rocky ground offers geckos natural shelter. Wadis collect water and breed insects after rain.
New student housing blocks set close together
Student residential blocks are recent and closely set, gaps between them are small. The spaces between blocks offer geckos pathways from the rocks. Cracks around new foundations may trap gecko eggs.
Hajj camps and seasonal pilgrims
The university campus lies near Arafat and Mina, and the area receives seasonal visitors. Temporary tents and camps supply shelter and food for insects. Geckos come from these camps into the university district.
The character of Al Abidiyah
New development: ongoing construction and vacant plots between the homes
In a new development like a university campus, ongoing building and open rocky ground around the blocks offer renewed sources of geckos, so external treatment around the blocks and rocks is essential and may need seasonal repeat.
The food, the opening and the crevice decide the method
The ground is raised and mostly dry but Wadi Uranah cuts through it, and water collects in wadis and low ground after rain. Exposed rock and open soil provide natural shelter for insects, rodents and geckos.
The house gecko
The house gecko in Al Abidiyah shelters in rocks and wadis surrounding the campus and does not need to travel far, so treatment focuses on gaps around the blocks and adjacent rocky ground.
Outdoor lighting
External block lighting attracts insects from rocks and wadis, and geckos come for the insects, so reducing or changing external lighting reduces insects and geckos.
Window mesh
Window and opening mesh protects from insects and young geckos, and installing it on ventilation openings prevents entry from spaces between blocks.
The air-conditioner sleeve
Air conditioner sleeves in student blocks may be large or poorly sealed, and geckos enter from gaps between blocks, so sealing them with fine mesh is essential.
Meter boxes and electrical panels
Electrical panels in blocks may be on outer walls near rocks, and cracks around them offer entry, so cleaning and injecting them reduces populations.
The garden and the irrigation
Gaps between student housing blocks offer pathways from rocks and wadis, and treating around the blocks and the spaces between them reduces incoming geckos.
How we work
-
1
Inspect at night and find the source
We come at the hour it is actually moving, and establish which wall face it is living on, which lights are gathering its food, the entry points and the crevices it wedges into by day.
-
2
Treat the food source
We treat the flying and crawling insects on the wall faces, around the perimeter and around the lighting. Once the food goes, the wall stops being worth staying on.
-
3
Close the openings and clear the crevices
We seal the air-conditioner sleeve, screen the vents and drain outlets, deal with the underside of doors, and place a repellent in the crevices and behind panels so they move out before anything is closed.
-
4
The follow-up visit
We come back once the glued eggs have hatched, check the seals held, and re-treat any wall face where activity has returned.
What gecko control includes
-
A recorded night inspection
Wall faces, lighting, entry points and egg sites, all established before anything is applied.
-
Treating the insects on the walls
Targeted treatment around lighting, windows and the building perimeter, because the food is what keeps it there.
-
Placed repellent in the crevices
Behind panels, in wall joints and at the ceiling-void entries, where it sits out the day.
-
Screening vents and drain openings
Shafts, vents and the condensate outlet, which are entry points nobody looks at.
-
Aftercare instructions
Ventilation, what to cover, and the change to the outside lighting that stops the insects gathering again.
-
A scheduled follow-up
A set date after the first treatment, a check on the seals and re-treatment of anything still active.
What is different about Al Aziziyah (Makkah) Sub-Municipality
Al Aziziyah sub municipality runs from the Bin Dawood markets to the Al Hada road and carries pilgrim traffic to Mina. Hotel towers and furnished apartment blocks fill and empty with the Hajj and Ramadan seasons, and the kitchens, restaurants and markets along Al Masjid Al Haram Road and King Abdulaziz Road leave food waste at every peak. Southwards the fabric loosens into villas and planned streets in An Naseem and Al Awali, then Al Abidiyah's campus and the old farms of Al Husayniyah, where Wadi Uranah holds water after rain and farm enclosures shelter rodents and reptiles.
Questions about this district
Does the rocky ground and the wadi surrounding the campus source geckos?
Yes, rocky ground offers natural shelter and wadis collect water and breed insects. The gecko shelters there and enters the new residential blocks nearby.
Does Wadi Uranah increase gecko and scorpion problems?
Yes, the wadi collects water, insects and moisture. Rocks around it offer shelter. Both geckos and scorpions shelter there and climb into the blocks.
Is my new student housing protected from geckos from the rocky ground?
The blocks are new and well isolated, but rocky ground and wadis are very close. Treating the campus and around the blocks and rocks is necessary.
Is treating inside the block enough or must we treat outside as well?
Inside treatment alone is not sufficient. The rocks and wadis nearby offer a continuous source. Comprehensive external treatment around the block is necessary.
How often must we treat in Al Abidiyah?
Seasonal treatment before Hajj may be enough. Repeat treatment during the year offers better protection.
Do Hajj camps and seasonal pilgrims increase geckos and insects?
Yes, temporary tents and waste supply food for insects. Geckos come from these camps into the university district quickly.
How much does gecko control in Al Abidiyah cost?
It is set after the inspection, because the price follows the type of infestation, the size of the space, how far it has spread and the number of visits it needs. Send a photo and a description on WhatsApp and we will give you an estimate before we reach Al Abidiyah.
