Gecko control in Al Sabil Jeddah

Al Sabil is an old inner district between King Fahd Road and Old Makkah Road, a mix of aged houses and newer blocks along narrow lanes. Nearness to the sea, the Islamic Port and the Arbaeen lagoon keeps humidity high year round. The drainage networks are old, and crowded popular markets and dense eateries create constant food waste that feeds cockroaches and geckos together.

  • Targeted, not broadcast

Product goes into cracks and runways, never sprayed across open surfaces.

  • Told before we start

What we will use, where it goes, and what to cover or move before we arrive.

  • A follow-up visit

We return after the first treatment, because what survives it does not show on the day.

  • Homes and businesses

Apartments and villas, and kitchens and stores that need a record of each visit.

Why they keep coming back in Al Sabil

Geckos in Al Sabil arrive from the street and markets hunting cockroaches feeding on food scraps, and may lodge in the flat for days if small insects and moisture are plentiful. The method is set out in full on our Gecko control service.

The first reason

Crowded popular markets and dense eateries supply food constantly

The old Sabil market and the dense eateries on the street produce heavy food waste. Cockroaches and flies come to this waste, and geckos follow them into nearby flats.

The second reason

Aged networks and high sea humidity compound together

Water and drainage lines were laid decades ago, and constant leaks coupled with high sea humidity have created a damp environment. This moisture supports established cockroach and rodent colonies.

The third reason

Narrow lanes and close packed buildings offer many pathways

Narrow streets and closely built structures create natural gaps between buildings and flats. Geckos move readily from one unit to the next through these fissures.

The house gecko

Geckos enter Al Sabil flats at night hunting cockroaches feeding on market and restaurant waste, so keeping the flat free of food crumbs reduces attraction.

An outdoor wall lamp lit after dark

Outdoor lighting

Strong lights on the street and windows attract flying insects, and geckos come for them at night. Reducing or changing the light helps.

An insect screen on a window, seen close up

Window mesh

Mesh on windows and doors is necessary, but old mesh may be torn or have small holes. Replacing weak mesh improves protection.

Air-conditioner pipes passing through an outside wall

The air-conditioner sleeve

Air conditioner outlets in the flat may be fully open or poorly protected, and geckos enter readily hunting insects around the unit.

An electrical distribution board mounted on a wall

Meter boxes and electrical panels

Electrical panels and meter boxes in shared passages or on stairs offer dampness and shade where geckos hide and use as pathways.

A garden wall with watered planting beside it

The garden and the irrigation

A shared courtyard or yard may be filled with restaurant and market waste, and geckos find food and shelter there.

How we work

  1. 1

Inspect at night and find the source

We come at the hour it is actually moving, and establish which wall face it is living on, which lights are gathering its food, the entry points and the crevices it wedges into by day.

  2. 2

    Treat the food source

We treat the flying and crawling insects on the wall faces, around the perimeter and around the lighting. Once the food goes, the wall stops being worth staying on.

  3. 3

Close the openings and clear the crevices

We seal the air-conditioner sleeve, screen the vents and drain outlets, deal with the underside of doors, and place a repellent in the crevices and behind panels so they move out before anything is closed.

  4. 4

    The follow-up visit

We come back once the glued eggs have hatched, check the seals held, and re-treat any wall face where activity has returned.

    A scheduled follow-up

A set date after the first treatment, a check on the seals and re-treatment of anything still active.

What is different about Al Balad Sub-Municipality

Al Balad sub municipality covers the historic core of Jeddah and the districts that first grew outside its wall. Its building stock is the oldest in the city: heritage stone houses and apartment blocks from past decades, threaded with hotels, shops and crowded popular markets around Bab Makkah, Bab Sharif and the Kandarah Souq. Nearness to the sea, the Islamic Port and the Arbaeen lagoon keeps humidity high all year, water and drainage networks are old, and narrow lanes, dense eateries and commercial storerooms put food and shelter within reach at every corner.

Questions about this district

Does high sea humidity worsen the gecko problem in Al Sabil?

Yes, high humidity creates ideal conditions for cockroaches and other insects, and geckos follow them. Constant moisture makes the problem harder to solve.

Do leaking water pipes bring geckos into the house?

Yes, constant leaks create dampness that attracts cockroaches and ants. The gecko enters the flat hunting the insects that come for the water.

Can geckos move from one flat to the next in an old building?

Yes, gaps and cracks between units and in shared passages offer easy gecko routes. Treating one flat may not stop geckos from the neighbouring unit.

Will treating the flat above the shop stop the geckos?

Treating the flat stops geckos inside it, but food waste from the shop below will keep attracting cockroaches. The problem will not vanish unless the shop itself controls cockroaches.

How many treatments does Harat Al Sabil need?

Because of constant humidity, dense eateries and aged drainage, a flat may need treatment three to four times a year.

Does salt weathering make gecko entry easier through cracks?

Yes, moisture and salt cause constant erosion of mortar and concrete, and new cracks offer fresh gecko pathways.

How much does gecko control in Al Sabil cost?

It is set after the inspection, because the price follows the type of infestation, the size of the space, how far it has spread and the number of visits it needs. Send a photo and a description on WhatsApp and we will give you an estimate before we reach Al Sabil.
