Mosquito control in Al Taawun Jeddah

Al Taawun is a new housing district on Jeddah's southern fringe, a Ministry scheme between Al Khumrah and the Al Laith road, with scattered construction and open land, rest houses dotting the ground. The Al Laith road location means seasonal standing water, and position south of Al Sanabil means exposure to drainage flows from older densely-packed neighbourhoods north.

  • Targeted, not broadcast

Product goes into cracks and runways, never sprayed across open surfaces.

  • Told before we start

What we will use, where it goes, and what to cover or move before we arrive.

  • A follow-up visit

We return after the first treatment, because what survives it does not show on the day.

  • Homes and businesses

Apartments and villas, and kitchens and stores that need a record of each visit.

Why they keep coming back in Al Taawun

Building remains scattered, and vacant plots between new villas collect water in natural hollows after rainfall, holding it for extended periods. The method is set out in full on our Mosquito control service.

The first reason

Open channels bring sources from dense areas upstream

Open Al Laith drainage carries runoff from crowded neighbourhoods northward, and standing water in the channel leaves small pools around drainage openings in Al Taawun itself, breeding sites overlooked during maintenance.

The second reason

Vacant plots and rest houses breed mosquitoes when rainfall comes

Private rest houses between villas may contain small pools or garden irrigation, and vacant plots trap water easily in natural depressions and small ravines, forming temporary breeding grounds after every downpour.

The third reason

New building is slow and the scheme remains incomplete

The government housing scheme develops piecemeal, and incomplete foundations with open excavations attract water. Widespread gaps between units make coordinated treatment difficult and expensive.

Landmarks of Al Taawun

Mosquito control in Al Taawun works by locating standing water sources across the housing scheme and rest houses, especially at the open drainage points along Al Hussein ibn Ali Street and throughout the Al Laith Road corridor where channels bring water downhill.

Before treatment

Standing water and shade decide the method

The district lies along the old Jeddah to Al Laith route across open ground. Open stormwater channels cross the road and bring water from densely populated areas to the north.

The daytime biter

Daytime biters shelter under the shade of newly planted trees and the rest houses scattered between new villas.

The one that comes out after sunset

Evening populations emerge from open plots and the open channels that carry moisture across the neighbourhood.

An outdoor air-conditioning unit fixed to a building wall

Air-conditioning condensate

Air-conditioning condensate from new construction collects quickly on clay soil that does not drain efficiently, creating persistent small water points.

Water storage tanks on a building roof

The tank and its openings

New villa water tanks often sit exposed on roof level or remain unsealed during construction, and open ground holds irrigation water indefinitely.

Potted plants in a garden standing in saucers

Garden containers and irrigation

Small garden pools in rest houses and drip irrigation systems in villa grounds provide permanent water sources separate from rainfall.

Dense shrubs along a shaded garden wall

The shade it rests in

Newly planted trees, natural ground depressions and the open drainage channels provide continuous shelter where adults rest through daylight hours.

How we work

  1. 1

    Inspect and map the water

We walk the perimeter, the roof, the garden, the meter chambers and the condensate runs, record everything that holds water, and read the species from the breeding site and the time of biting.

  2. 2

Remove the water that can go

Empty, invert, cover: saucers, containers, old tyres and roof gullies. Every point that disappears is a treatment that never needs repeating.

  3. 3

Larval treatment, then the resting surfaces

Water that cannot be drained is treated so the larva never completes, then a residual goes under planting, beneath outdoor furniture and along low shaded walls.

  4. 4

    The follow-up visit

We come back once the generation that was in the water on the first visit has completed, review every point we recorded and re-treat where needed.

What mosquito control includes

  • A technician inspecting with a flashlight

    A recorded water survey

Roof, perimeter, garden, meter chambers and condensate lines, written down before anything is applied.

  • A metal floor drain

    Draining and covering the sources

Emptying what can be emptied, draining what can be drained, and covering what has to stay full.

  • A gloved hand applying bait into a joint

Larval treatment for the water that stays

For ground tanks, inspection chambers, water features and any permanent water that has to remain.

  • A spray nozzle in close detail

A residual on the resting places

Under trees and shrubs, beneath outdoor furniture and on shaded walls, where the adult sits out the day.

  • A clean kitchen counter after treatment

    Aftercare instructions

What stays inverted, what gets covered, which openings need mesh, and when watering goes back to normal.

  • The visit report being written on a clipboard

    A scheduled follow-up

A set date after the first treatment, with every recorded water point reviewed and re-treated if the water came back.

What is different about South Sub-Municipality

The South sub municipality runs from the edge of Old Makkah Road down to Al Khumrah and the southern corniche. Dense residential districts sit beside new subdivisions such as Al Sanabil and Al Taawun, warehouse fringes such as Al Saruriyah and Al Sarawat, and an old seaside settlement at Al Quzayn. Open stormwater channels cross the housing, and the warehouses, the vegetable and livestock markets and the nearby Islamic Port and Industrial City give pests shelter, food and year round humidity. Pressure is greatest in the older quarters, where drainage networks are ageing.

Questions about this district

Are the open Al Laith drainage channels the main mosquito source here?

Channels bring water and leave small pools at their openings, but vacant plots in the district itself breed mosquitoes even without rainfall. The problem is both local and imported from outside.

If the rest house is hosed clean daily, will mosquitoes around my villa decrease?

Daily cleaning reduces standing water near your home, but wider vacant ground stays a source. Treatment must focus on drainage openings and low points in open ground across the neighbourhood.

Will treating only my villa protect it from mosquitoes coming from open plots?

Treatment of your villa provides interior protection, but mosquitoes cross open ground easily. Control requires treatment extension to neighbourhood edges and open areas neighbouring the scheme itself.

Does a new government housing scheme need different treatment than older dense neighbourhoods?

New schemes have wide unbuilt areas still vacant. Treatment must focus on standing water in natural ground features rather than only around new villas, reaching areas older districts have already filled with construction.

Will ongoing construction in Al Taawun reduce mosquitoes or make them worse?

Building will gradually fill vacant land, but during current construction phases open ground and excavations remain primary sources. Regular treatment is needed until building density increases enough to reduce breeding opportunities.

Should Al Hussein ibn Ali Street be treated separately from the rest of the district?

The street may act as a corridor for mosquito movement or a boundary between treatment zones. Effective control treats the street together with adjacent areas on both sides as one unit.

How much does mosquito control in Al Taawun cost?

It is set after the inspection, because the price follows the type of infestation, the size of the space, how far it has spread and the number of visits it needs. Send a photo and a description on WhatsApp and we will give you an estimate before we reach Al Taawun.
