Questions about this district

A snake entered the flat but the shop below us is now closed. How did it get in?

The snake may have entered the shop weeks or months before it closed, or it came directly from the street. The wall shared with the shop below has gaps that permit snake entry even if the shop is now sealed.

Does closing the ground floor shop protect the flat from snakes?

No. Closing the shop alone does not protect you. Rodents may remain under the floor even after the shop is shut, and they will attract snakes. The shared wall must be sealed and every gap inspected.

Are flats above shops far more at risk than flats in apartment towers?

Yes, considerably. A flat above a shop is at much greater risk because the shop opens directly to the street where rodents and snakes enter freely. Apartment tower flats isolate themselves from ground level only.

What should we do about the shop below us if it has rats and snakes?

The shop owner must address rodents there first. Then seal every gap between your space and theirs. If the shop owner refuses to act, you can at least seal your side of the shared wall as a barrier.
