We work the perimeter, the garden and the service rooms with a torch and a mirror, reading the tracks, the skins and the burrows to establish whether it is still on site and where it came in.

It comes out on a hook and tongs into a closed container and is released away from buildings where that is possible, with no chasing it around a room.

Close the routes, take away the shelter

A strip under the gate, sleeves around pipe entries, tight covers on the floor drains, and the blocks and palm fronds moved off the wall line.

Cut the food, then come back

We treat the rodents and the geckos on the perimeter, then return once that activity has settled to check the sealed points and look for any fresh track.

Dhahban sub municipality is the northern coastal strip of Jeddah, running from the north bank of Sharm Obhur up to the old village of Dhahban and Salman Bay. Its districts are recently built, with owner occupied villas and apartments, beach resorts and chalets on the shore, and land subdivisions still being developed. Nearness to the sea keeps humidity high all year, irrigated lawns in villas, resorts and district parks hold water, Wadi Obhur and the vacant plots between buildings give rodents and reptiles shelter, and the old fishing village of Dhahban gives the far north a rural edge.

Public parks in coastal areas provide food and water for rodents and reptiles throughout the year. Snakes enter neighbouring homes hunting the abundance of rodents. Seal all gaps around your house perimeter and ensure proper site drainage away from the walls.

Our flat is directly above a tourist shop at Awfa Rizk Mall. Does this increase snakes?

Tourist shops provide diverse food sources and harbour large rodent populations. Flats above them face constant upward pressure from snakes hunting rodents below. All entry points from below and at your level must be sealed completely.

Pool water is leaking steadily from the villa filter. Does this draw snakes to the yard?

Standing water attracts rodents and insects, which in turn draw snakes. Stop pool leaks immediately and remove all moisture sources around the villa perimeter. Wet ground is an active feeding ground for snakes here.

The old villa gate has small cracks and gaps. Can a thin snake pass through?

Slender snakes pass through gaps far smaller than you would expect. Old gates need complete sealing with appropriate materials and metal kick plates installed along the bottom edge.

We found a shed skin by the water tank. How many snakes are present here?

One shed skin may indicate one snake or several. More importantly, seal all entry points and remove rodent and moisture sources to prevent future entries. Repeated sightings require professional gap sealing.

Do the nearby resorts and holiday properties cause snakes to enter our villa?

Resorts provide shelter and food for rodents and reptiles, but your house must also contain attractants such as rodents or damp ground. Treat your entire property inside and out. Neighbouring properties are secondary to removing attractions in your own home.
