Termite control in Al Hindawiyah Makkah

Al Hindawiyah is a densely populated popular district on the west of the city, with hundreds of small shops crammed into old unplanned buildings. Tiny shops stand shoulder to shoulder with warehouses that hold goods and moisture, streets are narrow and drainage is old. Termites find everything they need: shelter in the gaps between shops, moisture from leaking drains, and food from stored goods.

  • Targeted, not broadcast

Product goes into cracks and runways, never sprayed across open surfaces.

  • Told before we start

What we will use, where it goes, and what to cover or move before we arrive.

  • A follow-up visit

We return after the first treatment, because what survives it does not show on the day.

  • Homes and businesses

Apartments and villas, and kitchens and stores that need a record of each visit.

Why they keep coming back in Al Hindawiyah

Shops are tiny and warehouses are dark and poorly ventilated; shop owners focus on sales and not on maintenance or reporting termites early. The method is set out in full on the full Termite control page.

The first reason

Small adjoining shops and shared walls

Hundreds of tiny shops stand shoulder to shoulder with no gap, walls are shared between neighbouring shops, and termites travel easily from one to the next through gaps, cracks and connected footings.

The second reason

Damp warehouses and stored goods

Ground and basement level warehouses are damp and poorly ventilated with diverse goods that attract moisture. Termites find both food and shelter there.

The third reason

Old drainage and constant moisture

The sewer is old and leaks continuously beneath streets and shops, soil stays damp around the footings, and termites colonise the footings and voids beneath shops easily.

The character of Al Hindawiyah

Commercial area: offices, showrooms and small stores

A commercial area means hundreds of small shops with shared walls and connected footings, so termites travel easily from shop to shop and infestation spreads rapidly across the entire district.

Before treatment

The evidence that decides the treatment

A dense popular commercial area with old unplanned construction, a failing sewer system, and small shops surrounded by numerous shared walls.

Narrow mud tubes running up a concrete wall

Mud tubes

Mud tubes begin in damp soil around shops and warehouses and rise through cracks and shared walls.

Discarded transparent wings on a window ledge

Shed wings

Shed wings appear on wooden floors, furniture and wooden boxes stored inside.

A damaged timber frame showing internal galleries

Hollow timber

Hollow timber shows in flooring, sills, wooden shelving and crates in warehouses.

A dark damp patch below a pipe at a wall base

The water source

Water source is leaking drains, damp soil around footings and dark, poorly ventilated warehouses.

Cardboard boxes and timber stacked on a store floor

Cellulose on the floor

Cellulose on the floor includes flooring, sills, wooden crates and stored wooden shelving.

A concrete joint and a pipe passing through a floor slab

Joints and pipe entries

Joints between adjoining shops, gaps between shop and warehouse below, and pipe entries from beneath the slab.

How we work

  1. 1

    Inspect and trace

We sound the timber and the skirting, take moisture readings, and follow the tubes to the point where they leave the soil. We also settle the species, because one that lives inside dry wood is not treated like one that lives in the ground.

  2. 2

Treat the soil around the building

A narrow trench at the footing and injection at regular spacing, so the treated band runs continuous with no gap to walk around.

  3. 3

Drill the joints, inject the timber

Small holes at spacing along the slab joints, the wall bases and the pipe entries, direct injection into the galleries inside the affected timber, then the holes are closed and made good.

  4. 4

    Bait stations and monitoring

Stations in the soil carrying a slow-acting material the workers pass through the colony by mouth-to-mouth feeding, and we come back to read them, because an empty tube on a wall proves nothing on its own.

What termite control includes

  • A technician inspecting with a flashlight

    A traced, recorded inspection

Sounding, moisture readings, tubes traced back to the soil, and the species settled before anything is applied.

  • A spray nozzle in close detail

A treated band at the perimeter

Trenching and injection at the footing, spaced so the band is continuous rather than a set of patches.

  • A metal floor drain

    Joints and service penetrations

Slab joints, pipe entries and floor drains, which are the ways up through the concrete.

  • A gloved hand applying bait into a joint

    Bait stations in the soil

A slow material carried back through the colony by feeding exchange, rather than stopping the workers at the wall.

  • A clean kitchen counter after treatment

    Aftercare instructions

What not to dig or water near the treated band, what to keep off the walls, and the ventilation time we set for your case.

  • The visit report being written on a clipboard

    Scheduled monitoring visits

Reading the stations, sounding the same timber again, and treating any new activity.

Questions about this district

Shop next to shop and warehouse below: do termites travel from warehouse to shop?

Warehouse and shop above share connected footings and a weak barrier, so termites travel from warehouse to shop through gaps and pipes.

Is the termite problem in our shop or in the adjacent ones?

The source may be your shop or a neighbouring shop or all of them together through connected footings. Inspection identifies the primary source and treatment includes your shop and the adjacent ones.

The street is narrow and the old drain on Prince Mansour Street is very bad: is treatment alone enough?

Old failing drains keep soil perpetually damp. Chemical treatment protects your shop but fixing the drain removes the fundamental attraction for termites.

Our shop is small and the warehouse below is dark: can the whole warehouse be treated?

Small warehouses are treated with bait stations placed in corners and gaps, and regular monitoring is essential because darkness and moisture hide infestation.

Stock changes every week: did we bring termites in goods from elsewhere?

Termites colonise the building and footings, not goods, and whilst goods may carry infested timber the real source is moisture and the footings themselves.

The Second Ring Road surrounds the district: is that a termite barrier?

The ring road is not a barrier; termites move underground beneath it, and the real risk is the old drains and weak footings in the district.

How much does termite control in Al Hindawiyah cost?

It is set after the inspection, because the price follows the type of infestation, the size of the space, how far it has spread and the number of visits it needs. Send a photo and a description on WhatsApp and we will give you an estimate before we reach Al Hindawiyah.
