Termite control in Al Zahir Makkah

Al Zahir marks Makkah's northern entrance on the Madinah road, an old quarter north west of the Grand Mosque cut through by the Third Ring Road and Hajun Street. Mountains and valleys surround it: Jabal Al Zahir, Jabal Al Barud and Wadi Al Zahir, and old and new apartment buildings mix without clear separation. King Abdulaziz Hospital, the Holy Capital public library, the Makkah Museum, an Umm Al Qura campus and Al Diyafah Mall mark the district, but old walls and natural cavities in the hills provide shelter for termites.

  • Targeted, not broadcast

Product goes into cracks and runways, never sprayed across open surfaces.

  • Told before we start

What we will use, where it goes, and what to cover or move before we arrive.

  • A follow-up visit

We return after the first treatment, because what survives it does not show on the day.

  • Homes and businesses

Apartments and villas, and kitchens and stores that need a record of each visit.

Why they keep coming back in Al Zahir

Old walls are cracked and weak, gaps between buildings are numerous and voids beneath the slab are irregular because the ground is mountainous. The method is set out in full on our Termite control service.

The first reason

Old walls and numerous gaps

Old buildings have cracked, weak walls and many gaps between old and new construction. Termites exploit these cracks and gaps to enter and move between floors.

The second reason

Natural cavities in the hills and wadis

Jabal Al Zahir and Jabal Al Barud hold many natural cavities, the wadis carry water in flood and then dry leaving moisture, and termites exploit these natural gaps.

The third reason

Footings on unstable hillside ground

Building on mountain slopes means irregular footings and many natural voids beneath the slab that termites exploit easily and which are hard to reach.

Before treatment

The evidence that decides the treatment

An old northern district on the Madinah road, hilly ground with many natural cavities and wadi channels, old and new buildings mingled without clear division.

Narrow mud tubes running up a concrete wall

Mud tubes

Mud tubes begin in natural hill cavities and footings and rise through cracks in old walls.

Discarded transparent wings on a window ledge

Shed wings

Shed wings appear on old wooden floors, furniture and ceilings in the blocks.

A damaged timber frame showing internal galleries

Hollow timber

Hollow timber shows in flooring, ceilings, sills and built-in furniture in old houses.

A dark damp patch below a pipe at a wall base

The water source

Water source is natural cavities, wadis and moisture from seepage beneath footings.

Cardboard boxes and timber stacked on a store floor

Cellulose on the floor

Cellulose on the floor includes wooden flooring, sills and timber structures in old houses.

A concrete joint and a pipe passing through a floor slab

Joints and pipe entries

Joints between old and new walls, natural cavities in the hills, and pipe entries from wadis and cavities.

How we work

  1. 1

    Inspect and trace

We sound the timber and the skirting, take moisture readings, and follow the tubes to the point where they leave the soil. We also settle the species, because one that lives inside dry wood is not treated like one that lives in the ground.

  2. 2

Treat the soil around the building

A narrow trench at the footing and injection at regular spacing, so the treated band runs continuous with no gap to walk around.

  3. 3

Drill the joints, inject the timber

Small holes at spacing along the slab joints, the wall bases and the pipe entries, direct injection into the galleries inside the affected timber, then the holes are closed and made good.

  4. 4

    Bait stations and monitoring

Stations in the soil carrying a slow-acting material the workers pass through the colony by mouth-to-mouth feeding, and we come back to read them, because an empty tube on a wall proves nothing on its own.

What termite control includes

  • A technician inspecting with a flashlight

    A traced, recorded inspection

Sounding, moisture readings, tubes traced back to the soil, and the species settled before anything is applied.

  • A spray nozzle in close detail

A treated band at the perimeter

Trenching and injection at the footing, spaced so the band is continuous rather than a set of patches.

  • A metal floor drain

    Joints and service penetrations

Slab joints, pipe entries and floor drains, which are the ways up through the concrete.

  • A gloved hand applying bait into a joint

    Bait stations in the soil

A slow material carried back through the colony by feeding exchange, rather than stopping the workers at the wall.

  • A clean kitchen counter after treatment

    Aftercare instructions

What not to dig or water near the treated band, what to keep off the walls, and the ventilation time we set for your case.

  • The visit report being written on a clipboard

    Scheduled monitoring visits

Reading the stations, sounding the same timber again, and treating any new activity.

Landmarks of Al Zahir

Al Zahir is bounded by the Madinah road to the west and King Abdulaziz Hospital to the south, with the Holy Capital Public Library, the Makkah Museum and Al Diyafah Mall providing known landmarks. Treatment reaches each building from the street and covers natural voids and footings on the hillside.

Questions about this district

Our house is very old in Al Zahir: might there be termites in it now that we have not noticed?

Old houses in Al Zahir may hold dormant colonies in the old walls, and detailed inspection reveals mud tubes and early infestation.

Walls between our old house and the new building beside: do termites travel between?

Shared walls and gaps between them allow transfer, so if one building is infested the other is at risk.

Jabal Al Zahir is beside the house: is the mountain a certain termite source?

The mountain holds natural cavities that may contain termites, but transfer to the house depends on shared footings, soil and joints.

The void below the slab is very deep because of the hill: can it be treated?

Deep natural voids are treated with bait stations placed in corners and passages, and monitoring takes longer.

Wadi Al Zahir beside us carries water after rain: do floods bring termites?

Floods provide temporary moisture but dry quickly. Permanent moisture from soil beneath the footing is the main termite source.

King Abdulaziz Hospital is beside us: are hospital buildings more at risk than houses?

The hospital and houses sit on the same hillside and cavities, but the hospital is modern and well sealed whereas old houses have weaker defences.

How much does termite control in Al Zahir cost?

It is set after the inspection, because the price follows the type of infestation, the size of the space, how far it has spread and the number of visits it needs. Send a photo and a description on WhatsApp and we will give you an estimate before we reach Al Zahir.
