Why they keep coming back in Al Rawdah

A single hotel may house three separate ant species working at different heights: above ground in the kitchens, mid-level in the corridors, and below ground in the storage areas. The method is set out in full on Ant control in detail.

The first reason

Ants move fast through hotels because the layout aids them

A hotel is not a single home but a complex network of kitchens, corridors and furnished rooms. Ants reach every floor easily through shared pipes and walls, so treating one room or one floor alone will not stop them. The colony is using the entire building as a highway.

The second reason

Hotel food draws a different class of ant

Hotel kitchens store oil and grease in bulk and break down meat and poultry daily. The protein-seeking ant here is stronger and more determined than the ant in an ordinary home where food is scattered, so the bait and the timing must match hotel conditions, not household ones.

The third reason

Moisture from air conditioning systems concentrates them

Water leaks from pipes and AC units in tall buildings are normal. Ants need water before food, so they gather around broken pipes long before you see them beside food. The wet spots from condensation are ant assembly points.

The species and the trail decide the bait

The location metres from the Grand Mosque means constant pilgrim movement, daily deliveries of food and provisions arriving for hotels and residences, creating an ideal environment where ants of multiple species can thrive simultaneously at every level of the building.

The sweet feeders

Sugar-seeking ants gather in the hotel's stores and sweets areas, and where honey, concentrated juices and syrups are kept in sealed containers.

The grease and protein feeders

Grease and protein seekers dominate the kitchens where oils, ghee and frying residue are stored, and these are the strongest and hardest to control.

The trail and its direction

The trail starts at the main kitchen and climbs through shared pipes and walls to guest rooms, so the bait must be placed in the kitchen first to reach the queen.

Moisture before food

Moisture from leaking pipes on upper floors draws ants to gather around metal pipes before they seek food elsewhere in the structure.

The nest outside the building

The main nest may lie completely outside the hotel, in the foundations or underground beside the building, but ants enter the hotel daily through cracks and openings in the outer walls.

Winged ants

Winged ants appear at certain times of year when the queen has laid large batches of reproductive brood, which signals the colony is very strong and treatment is urgent.

What is different about Al Maabdah Sub-Municipality

Al Maabdah sub municipality climbs from Al Abtah and Al Jumayzah beside the Al Mualla cemetery up through Al Khansa and Rai Adhakhir to Al Adl, Jabal Al Nour, Wadi Jaleel and Qurtubah on the outer ring roads. It mixes hotels and pilgrim housing near the Grand Mosque with old popular houses on hillside passes, new housing schemes on valley floors that carry flash floods after rain, and industrial plots, workshops and warehouses along Al Hajj Street in Qurtubah. Street widening and expropriation leave partly demolished frontages in Al Khansa.

Questions about this district

Is treating a hotel completely different from treating a family home?

Yes, hotels need a different approach altogether. We use much stronger baits in kitchens because the ants there feed on concentrated fats and protein, whereas a family home may need only a sweet bait and quite a different delivery method.

Are the ants in Al Rawdah different from ants in distant neighbourhoods?

Yes, these ants are stronger because they live in high food abundance. You see them marching in thicker lines and faster than ants in ordinary residential areas do.

Does treatment affect the hotel's cleanliness reputation?

Treatment leaves no visible traces and is done at night. We use a bait the ants carry into the nest themselves, so there is no visible spray in public areas at all.

How often should a hotel in Al Rawdah be treated yearly?

Hotels here need seasonal treatment at minimum before Ramadan and before the major Hajj seasons, and may need extra rounds if guest flow increases.

The ants came back a month after treatment. Is this normal for a hotel?

It may be a new food shipment entering the hotel or ants from the neighbouring hotel. The dense setting means ants return faster than in isolated homes.

Must the hotel be emptied before treatment?

No, the bait is completely safe and placed only in specific areas. Guests feel nothing and the hotel runs normally, but we do ask you to avoid cleaning the treated areas for two days.
