The first reason

Water and sewer networks in Al Safa are very old and many leak beneath the streets. Ants build nests near these leaking pipes to ensure water access, and pipe replacement reduces the problem but may not end it entirely.

The Airport sub-municipality covers some of the oldest established districts of northern Jeddah, gathered around King Abdulaziz International Airport between Madinah Road, King Fahd Road and Prince Majid Road. Commercial streets such as Quraish, Sari and Sultan bin Salman are lined with restaurants, furnished flats and popular markets. Questions about this district

Does replacing aged pipes reduce ants in old districts?

Pipe replacement reduces ants but does not eliminate them. New pipes are tight but other gaps in the foundation may remain open.

Why do ants return faster to old districts than to new ones?

In old districts, ants have multiple colonies and many shelters. One treatment may eliminate one branch but other colonies survive, so ants return quickly.

Is the ant in a restaurant on Prince Majid Street different from the ant in the flat above?

The species may be the same but behaviour differs. Restaurant ants are bolder and less fearful, while flat ants may be more cautious.

Why do ants return quickly to a restaurant after treatment?

A restaurant is a steady food source attracting new ants from elsewhere. Unless the adjacent shop and flat above are also treated, ants will return from those places.

Does restaurant cleaning substantially reduce ant numbers?

Cleaning reduces ants but does not eliminate them. Without destroying the nest and colony, ants survive and forage for alternative food.

Do shared pipes between shops and flats make treatment very difficult?

Yes, very much. Shared pipes let ants move freely between shop and flat and adjacent shops. A single treatment will not succeed unless all connected spaces are treated together.
