Inspect and map the spread

We strip the bed and work through the mattress and base seams, the frame joints, the headboard and the skirting, then check the upholstered furniture and the neighbouring rooms to see how far it has gone.

Laundry, heat and steam

Bedding is bagged and sealed inside the room, then washed and dried hot. Steam runs along the seams and edges, because heat reaches the cemented eggs that a liquid never will.

Targeted, non-repellent application

A non-repellent product goes onto the harbourage itself, with a dust into voids and screw holes. We do not use a repellent aerosol, because it drives the insect deeper into the wall and into the next room.

Monitoring and the follow-up visit

A sealed encasement goes onto the mattress and the base, with monitors under the bed legs, then we return once the remaining eggs have hatched and re-treat anything still active.

Questions about this district

Our son stays overnight for a school camp at Al Andalus Park, should we check his bag afterwards?

Yes. Check the bag and any blanket before either enters his room, and open them somewhere away from his bed so you can be sure nothing travelled home with the camp gear.

Our driver returns from leave with new luggage into the villa annexe, does that room need its own check?

Yes. Check the annexe bedding and the driver's case as soon as he is back, since the annexe is a separate structure from the main villa and checking the family's own bedrooms will not cover it.

We bought a display chair from a toy shop on Tahliah, does it need checking before the child's room?

Yes. Plenty of children handle a display piece like that in a showroom, so check it thoroughly and wipe down the joints before it goes anywhere near the child's room or bed.

Our garden majlis sits apart from the villa, does it still need checking?

Yes. The majlis takes guests and soft furnishings just as the main house does, so it belongs in the inspection in full, especially the cushions and upholstered seating brought out for gatherings.

A friend stays a week in our guest room for a Corniche holiday, do we check it after he leaves?

Yes. Check the mattress, the seams and the corners of the bed straight after he goes, since a week is long enough for signs to show if anything travelled in with his case from home.

Our son returns from boarding school abroad with his summer case, does it need checking first?

Yes. Open the case somewhere away from the bed, and go through its folds and pockets before any fabric from it touches his room, since long journeys are one of the most common ways bed bugs travel.
