Why they keep coming back in Al Asalah

We keep noticing that a good number of homes here are still waiting for their first residents, so the furniture arriving is either brand new from the shop or carried over from a relative's building site nearby. The method is set out in full on our Bed bug control service.

The first reason

First-occupancy villas mean furniture with no history

Many villas in Al Asalah are being lived in for the first time, so furniture arrives straight from factories and showrooms, sometimes alongside secondhand pieces passed on by a relative who has just finished building nearby. The check starts at the point of entry, not from an assumption of a long-standing infestation.

The second reason

Wadi damp and an unfinished drainage network

Wadi Obhur runs close to the district, and the drainage network still being completed keeps ground floor walls and flooring wetter for longer. That damp gives bed bugs a comfortable seam to sit in near floor level, rather than pushing them to show themselves quickly on the surface.

The third reason

Building sites shared across four neighbouring districts

Al Asalah borders Al Falah, Al Hamdaniyah, Taibah and Al Firdaws, all being built out at the same time, so labourers and temporary bedding move between the closely spaced sites. That crossover carries any infestation further than the boundary of one house, unlike a district finished and settled on its own.

The places that decide the treatment

Wadi Obhur runs along the district's edge, and the drainage network in several streets is not yet complete, which keeps ground floor walls and flooring damp for longer than in older, fully drained parts of the city.

Assembly crews who move between neighbouring building sites can leave a trace in freshly drilled screw holes before the joint is closed up for good.

On ground floors closest to Wadi Obhur, the wall behind the headboard stays damp for longer, which makes faint marks harder to spot early.

Because so much of the bedding here is still brand new, a small dark stain stands out faster than it would in an older home with layers of use.

How we work

Inspect and map the spread

We strip the bed and work through the mattress and base seams, the frame joints, the headboard and the skirting, then check the upholstered furniture and the neighbouring rooms to see how far it has gone.

Laundry, heat and steam

Bedding is bagged and sealed inside the room, then washed and dried hot. Steam runs along the seams and edges, because heat reaches the cemented eggs that a liquid never will.

Targeted, non-repellent application

A non-repellent product goes onto the harbourage itself, with a dust into voids and screw holes. We do not use a repellent aerosol, because it drives the insect deeper into the wall and into the next room.

Monitoring and the follow-up visit

A sealed encasement goes onto the mattress and the base, with monitors under the bed legs, then we return once the remaining eggs have hatched and re-treat anything still active.

Questions about this district

We furnished the whole villa with brand new factory furniture, does it still need checking?

Factory-new furniture rarely carries bed bugs, but it is worth a quick check on delivery and assembly, especially if the shipment passed through a warehouse or showroom that stores pieces from several different suppliers before they reach the villa.

Wadi Obhur rises after rain and we move furniture upstairs, does it need checking afterwards?

Moving furniture suddenly between floors can shift bed bugs from wherever they were hiding to a new spot before anyone notices. It is better to check pieces once they are settled in their final place than while they are still being carried between rooms.

Relatives travelling between Madinah and Makkah stop overnight at ours, should we check their bedding?

A guest staying one night on a long journey can carry bed bugs without realising it, so checking the mattress and pillows after they leave is usually enough to stop anything they brought in from settling before it reaches the seam.

We host relatives for a nearby sporting event and they stay two nights, should we check the room after?

A room used for only two nights may not show obvious signs yet, but checking the mattress seam and pillows once the guests have gone stops anything that travelled with them from settling in before it has a chance to spread.

Our streets are unpaved so furniture trucks sit loaded for hours before arriving, does that raise the risk?

Sitting inside a closed truck for hours does not create an infestation out of nothing, but it does give any bed bugs already in one piece time to spread to others nearby before everything is unloaded into the house.

We store guest mattresses in an unfinished upper room, does it need regular checking?

A mattress left unused for a long stretch can look perfectly fine, but anything that reached it before storage stays dormant inside the seam until the mattress is used again, so the check matters more just before it comes into use than while it sits idle.
