The first reason

A villa next to the shops complex sees workers, deliveries and stock passing close to its walls all day. Any furniture or soft goods coming in from a neighbouring shop are worth checking before they reach a bedroom, unlike a villa with no shop for a plot in any direction.

The second reason

One half finished, one half still open ground

The stretch of Al Falaq Al Jadid facing Al Laith Road is built and lived in, while the part toward the foot of Jabal Aghzul is still scattered with only a few villas. A new house there takes delivery straight from the movers, with no established neighbour for the problem to travel from first.

The third reason

Workshops inside the complex that build the furniture

The shops complex includes small carpentry and upholstery workshops that build bed frames and sofas for the villas around them. A piece can be made or repaired a few metres from the bedroom it ends up in, which means it is worth checking at the workshop, not only once it is installed.

The Fifth Ring Road splits the district in two: the stretch nearer Al Laith Road is built up with occupied villas, while the section toward Jabal Aghzul is still open ground with scattered construction.

How we work

Inspect and map the spread

We strip the bed and work through the mattress and base seams, the frame joints, the headboard and the skirting, then check the upholstered furniture and the neighbouring rooms to see how far it has gone.

Laundry, heat and steam

Bedding is bagged and sealed inside the room, then washed and dried hot. Steam runs along the seams and edges, because heat reaches the cemented eggs that a liquid never will.

Targeted, non-repellent application

A non-repellent product goes onto the harbourage itself, with a dust into voids and screw holes. We do not use a repellent aerosol, because it drives the insect deeper into the wall and into the next room.

Monitoring and the follow-up visit

A sealed encasement goes onto the mattress and the base, with monitors under the bed legs, then we return once the remaining eggs have hatched and re-treat anything still active.

What is different about South Makkah Sub-Municipality

South Makkah sub municipality is the belt of Crown Prince schemes south of Al Ukayshiyah, along the Al Laith road and the extension of Ibrahim Al Khalil Road to the Fifth Ring Road and the Non Muslims bypass. Most of it is still bare: granted plots awaiting houses, new villas standing alone, open building sites and unfinished paving and drainage. Wadi Uranah and its tributaries cross the low ground and hold water after rain, hills close it in, and rodents, reptiles and scorpions shelter in stacked materials and foundation pits before the neighbourhoods fill up.

Questions about this district

Delivery drivers mix up the Narjis scheme name with the official one, does that affect the furniture check?

It happens because the Narjis name is not on most of the signs yet. If a delivery sits overnight at a temporary collection point before it reaches you, it is worth checking the mattress seams before it goes straight into the bedroom.

The Fifth Ring Road splits our district into two very different halves, does the check differ between them?

It is more about priority than method. On the built side near Al Laith Road we are usually checking villas that have been lived in for a while, while on the scattered side near the hill we focus on the first load of furniture before it is used at all.

We tether Eid sheep on the open plot behind our house near the hill, does the annex furniture need checking?

Bed bugs do not come from the sheep themselves, but any bedding or sofa in the annex used by whoever watches them, whether for a rest or an overnight stay, is worth checking, especially with open ground next door and more people passing through before Eid.

We run a small carpentry workshop in the complex, do unsold bed frames need checking?

A display frame that has sat in the workshop for a while is worth checking at the joints and screw holes before it is ever used to sleep on at home, because timber stored near other shops picks up bed bugs more easily than a sealed new frame.

Building dust settles on our bedroom balcony because the road outside is not paved yet, does that affect the check?

Dust does not hide bed bugs, but it does hide the marks they leave on white bedding, so we rely on opening the seam and the joint itself rather than looking at the fabric alone, especially in rooms facing ground that is still unpaved.

We live above a new furniture shop in the complex that has not opened yet, do our rooms need checking?

Yes, fitting out a shop usually means samples and boxes passing through the same stairwell or lift that leads to your flat, and any box that goes near the bedroom door is worth a look before it is opened inside, even before the shop itself is open.
