Why they keep coming back in Al Muntazahat

On our visits across Al Muntazahat, we tend to find the infestation starting in the unit closest to a shop front rather than higher up in the same building. The method is set out in full on Bed bug control in detail.

The first reason

A shop front sitting against the home

Unlike a purely residential street, Al Muntazahat's villas and blocks often pair a shop at the front with living space directly behind or above it, so the insect can travel with stock boxes or stored furniture before it ever reaches a bedroom.

The second reason

A settled district, not a building site edge

Al Muntazahat already has its park, its health centre, its school and its mosque, so the housing here is older and more settled than districts still ringed by excavation. Furniture that has stayed in the family for years gives the insect longer to establish itself before anyone notices.

The third reason

Shared borders with established neighbours

Al Muntazahat borders the fully built districts of Al Adl, Al Farouq and Al Fadl, so furniture tends to pass between neighbouring homes rather than arrive from a building site or a vacant plot. The more common source here is a piece from a nearby house, not a workplace.

How we work

We strip the bed and work through the mattress and base seams, the frame joints, the headboard and the skirting, then check the upholstered furniture and the neighbouring rooms to see how far it has gone.

Laundry, heat and steam

Bedding is bagged and sealed inside the room, then washed and dried hot. Steam runs along the seams and edges, because heat reaches the cemented eggs that a liquid never will.

Targeted, non-repellent application

A non-repellent product goes onto the harbourage itself, with a dust into voids and screw holes. We do not use a repellent aerosol, because it drives the insect deeper into the wall and into the next room.

Monitoring and the follow-up visit

A sealed encasement goes onto the mattress and the base, with monitors under the bed legs, then we return once the remaining eggs have hatched and re-treat anything still active.

What is different about Umm Al Salam Sub-Municipality

The Umm Al Salam sub municipality covers the east and south east of Jeddah along the Old Makkah Road and the Haramain Road. It pairs recently planned districts such as Al Wahah, Al Nakhil and Al Shuruq with popular districts that grew outside formal planning, including Al Harazat, Al Mahamid and Umm Al Salam. The older areas have ageing drainage, unpaved streets and vacant plots where building waste collects, conditions that suit rodents, cockroaches and ants. The newer areas are ringed by half built subdivisions and open excavations.
