Al Wahah's villas follow a regular, repeating plan, and each house sits behind its own boundary wall with no party wall or shared staircase linking it to the next. An infestation in one villa does not automatically threaten the one beside it, unless furniture actually moves between them.

How we work

Inspect and map the spread

We strip the bed and work through the mattress and base seams, the frame joints, the headboard and the skirting, then check the upholstered furniture and the neighbouring rooms to see how far it has gone.

Laundry, heat and steam

Bedding is bagged and sealed inside the room, then washed and dried hot. Steam runs along the seams and edges, because heat reaches the cemented eggs that a liquid never will.

Targeted, non-repellent application

A non-repellent product goes onto the harbourage itself, with a dust into voids and screw holes. We do not use a repellent aerosol, because it drives the insect deeper into the wall and into the next room.

Monitoring and the follow-up visit

A sealed encasement goes onto the mattress and the base, with monitors under the bed legs, then we return once the remaining eggs have hatched and re-treat anything still active.

What is different about Umm Al Salam Sub-Municipality

The Umm Al Salam sub municipality covers the east and south east of Jeddah along the Old Makkah Road and the Haramain Road. It pairs recently planned districts such as Al Wahah, Al Nakhil and Al Shuruq with popular districts that grew outside formal planning, including Al Harazat, Al Mahamid and Umm Al Salam. The older areas have ageing drainage, unpaved streets and vacant plots where building waste collects, conditions that suit rodents, cockroaches and ants. The newer areas are ringed by half built subdivisions and open excavations.

Questions about this district

We share one guard with neighbours who has a small rest room, is that a risk?

The guard rotates between several villas during his shift, so if his small room is infested he can carry bed bugs on his clothes or bedding into any villa he visits next. That is why the room gets checked along with the villas that share him.

One gardener tends several neighbouring villas, can his tools carry bed bugs?

Bed bugs do not live in soil or plants, but they travel in the cloth or bag a gardener sets down on a chair or floor while he works. The risk sits in his personal kit, not in the garden itself.

Our flat sits above a shop that stores old showroom furniture in the basement, does that reach us?

Bed bugs do not travel through walls or ceilings, they need direct contact with the furniture itself or with someone carrying it by hand. As long as the basement storage stays separate from your entrance the risk is limited, and only a piece brought upstairs would need checking.

We fitted a secondhand air conditioner bought locally in a bedroom, does the room need checking?

Bed bugs rarely live inside the unit itself, but the old packing card and the straps used to secure it are places they favour. Check that material before you throw it out, there is no need to check the whole room just because a unit went in.

A nearby school ran a one night camp at Al Wahah Park, does our son's sleeping bag need checking?

One night in the open is not enough time for an infestation to start, but the sleeping bag may have picked up bed bugs from another camper or from shared transport. Shake it out and check it before it goes into storage with the rest of the bedding.

Villas on our street share the same design, do borrowed pieces from neighbours need checking?

A matching size does not mean a matching history, every piece carries the record of the house it came from. Check anything borrowed from neighbours the same way you would check a new piece before it enters a bedroom.
