Bed bug control in At Tanim Makkah
At Tanim is the Makkah resident's miqat north of the Grand Mosque, home to Masjid Aisha and a constant flow of pilgrims. Ihram shops, bathhouses and coach stations line the Madinah road, and travel agencies, stores and warehouses hold pilgrim luggage and clothes. Bed bugs travel in suitcases from hotel to hotel and into homes.

Why they keep coming back in At Tanim
Suitcases, clothes and bedding are stacked in bathhouses, warehouses and offices, and every case may carry bed bugs from a previous pilgrim. The method is set out in full on what Bed bug control involves.
Bathhouses and shared clothing
Umrah bathhouses are used by dozens of pilgrims daily. Clothes, covers and bedding sit on shelves and floors. Bed bugs move from a pilgrim's clothes to clean garments or to the next visitor.
Travel agencies and stored luggage
Travel agencies and coach stations store pilgrim baggage for hours. A suitcase from an infested pilgrim carries bed bugs to neighbouring cases. Bed bugs may enter the new home with the first opened suitcase.
Warehouses and second hand bedding
Storage facilities hold used furniture and mattresses for resale or donation. Old bedding may be contaminated from a former hotel or home. Treatment of warehouses and shops is essential.
The character of At Tanim
Commercial area: offices, showrooms and small stores
A commercial area with shops and bathhouses serving pilgrims at high speed, where bed bugs travel with clothes and suitcases moving rapidly through facilities and out of the district.
The places that decide the treatment
A commercial area with ihram shops, public bathhouses and hotel facilities, travel agencies and storage, serving a continuous stream of pilgrims and Umrah visitors.
The mattress seam
The mattress seam or bedding in the bathhouse may be contaminated from a previous pilgrim, and the worker who cleans may carry bed bugs to the next room.
Frame joints and screw holes
Frame joints and bedding in the shared bathhouse offer very safe refuges.
The headboard and the wall behind it
Walls, cupboards and shelves in the bathhouse and office may harbour bed bugs if contaminated by infested clothing.
What the bedding shows
Clothes and covers on shelves may carry bed bug eggs, and every pilgrim who wears contaminated garments may carry bed bugs home.
Sofas and armchairs
The sofa and chair in the waiting area or office may be contaminated by previous visitors.
Luggage and second hand furniture
Stacked suitcases may carry bed bugs from one case to the next, and the pilgrim takes an infested case unaware.
How we work
-
1
Inspect and map the spread
We strip the bed and work through the mattress and base seams, the frame joints, the headboard and the skirting, then check the upholstered furniture and the neighbouring rooms to see how far it has gone.
-
2
Laundry, heat and steam
Bedding is bagged and sealed inside the room, then washed and dried hot. Steam runs along the seams and edges, because heat reaches the cemented eggs that a liquid never will.
-
3
Targeted, non-repellent application
A non-repellent product goes onto the harbourage itself, with a dust into voids and screw holes. We do not use a repellent aerosol, because it drives the insect deeper into the wall and into the next room.
-
4
Monitoring and the follow-up visit
A sealed encasement goes onto the mattress and the base, with monitors under the bed legs, then we return once the remaining eggs have hatched and re-treat anything still active.
What bed bug control includes
-
A recorded inspection
Mattress and base seams, frame joints, the headboard, the skirting and every upholstered piece in the room.
-
Steam and targeted application
Steam along the seams and edges, and a non-repellent product on the harbourage itself, not on the surfaces you sleep on.
-
Voids and pipe entries
Behind the skirting, around pipe entries and under socket plates, which is the route from one unit to the next.
-
Monitors under the bed legs
Checked at every visit, they show remaining activity before the bites do.
-
Laundry, encasement and aftercare
The hot wash and dryer routine, a sealed encasement on the mattress and base, and what must not be carried out of the room.
-
A follow-up timed to the hatch
A date set on the hatch, and re-treatment of anything still active.
What is different about Al Umrah Sub-Municipality
Al Umrah sub municipality covers the north west of Makkah along the Madinah road and the old Jeddah road, from At Tanim and Masjid Aisha to An Nawwariyah. Its districts are the city's newest, villas and apartment blocks raised on wide schemes where large tracts in Al Umrah Al Jadidah, Al Fayha and Al Buhayrat remain vacant or under construction. Wadi Saraf and Wadi At Tanim run through it and rainwater gathers on unfinished schemes, ihram shops, restaurants and coach stops along the Madinah road serve a constant flow of pilgrims, and villas fill Al Hamra and Umm Al Jud.
Questions about this district
Do bed bugs spread from clothes to a suitcase in the bathhouse or office?
Yes, stacked clothes and luggage create opportunity for spread. Bed bugs walk from contaminated garments to clean ones easily.
Can pilgrim suitcases stored at travel agencies spread bed bugs from one guest to the next?
Suitcases stored side by side may spread bed bugs. One contaminated case can infect neighbouring luggage in hours.
Should bathhouses, agencies and warehouses be treated together?
If bed bugs are found in a bathhouse or agency, every location where clothes and luggage are stored must be inspected and treated.
Is used furniture and bedding in storage facilities contaminated?
Used bedding may be contaminated from a former hotel or home. Every item from storage must be inspected before sale or donation.
Can new clothes in ihram shops become contaminated?
New clothes on display may be contaminated by a pilgrim who tries them on. Shops must inspect shelves and stock regularly.
Is treating one shop sufficient or must all At Tanim shops be treated?
If bed bugs are contained to one shop or bathhouse, local treatment may suffice. But luggage and clothes move between shops, so thorough inspection is important.
How much does bed bug control in At Tanim cost?
It is set after the inspection, because the price follows the type of infestation, the size of the space, how far it has spread and the number of visits it needs. Send a photo and a description on WhatsApp and we will give you an estimate before we reach At Tanim.
