Cockroach control in At Tanim Makkah

At Tanim is a miqat, the point where Makkah's own pilgrims enter ihram, so the streets north of the Haram never empty. Under the flats sit ihram outfitters and small eateries that trade at all hours. That busy, food-rich ground floor, not the state of your kitchen, is what feeds the German cockroach and sends it climbing up to your home.

  • Targeted, not broadcast

Product goes into cracks and runways, never sprayed across open surfaces.

  • Told before we start

What we will use, where it goes, and what to cover or move before we arrive.

  • A follow-up visit

We return after the first treatment, because what survives it does not show on the day.

  • Homes and businesses

Apartments and villas, and kitchens and stores that need a record of each visit.

Why they keep coming back in At Tanim

Working in At Tanim, we notice the worst complaints come from flats sitting directly over a shop that sells dates or serves food to pilgrims, rather than from the quieter upper floors set back from the trade. The method is set out in full on how we approach Cockroach control.

The first reason

The shop beneath you is the source

At Tanim flats sit above ihram outfitters and eateries that serve pilgrims all day. The stored food and stacked cardboard downstairs breed the German cockroach, which then travels up through shared walls and pipework into your kitchen. The infestation is inherited from below, not earned by your housekeeping.

The second reason

Food that never rests

Beside a miqat, the flow of pilgrims never stops, so restaurants, juice carts and date stalls trade without pause and their bins fill again as fast as they are emptied. That constant surplus behind the shops gives cockroaches a food supply no quiet residential street can match.

The third reason

Pipework the whole block shares

The older, tightly packed buildings around the mosque run on single shared drains and service shafts. Treat your flat alone while the one next to it is left untouched, and the American cockroach simply crosses back through the common drainage. That is why we read the whole building, not just your door.

Before treatment

The species and the place decide the method

At Tanim sits in a hot, rocky valley north of Makkah, where residential flats share their walls with rows of ihram shops and eateries. Those blocks also share single runs of drainage, so cockroaches pass freely between one unit and the next.

A small light brown German cockroach

German cockroach

Thrives in the food and juice shops on the ground floor, then rides up on delivery boxes and date cartons into the At Tanim flats above them.

A larger dark cockroach on a wooden surface

American cockroach

Larger, and it comes up from the shared drains and service shafts behind the rows of shops, most often in the older blocks near the miqat.

An oven and gas hob beneath wooden shelving

Appliance heat

The pilgrims' water coolers and the shop fridges below, along with your own fridge motor, all give off steady warmth that draws roaches in to shelter beside it.

A kitchen with a fridge; the gap behind it is a classic nest

The gap behind the fridge

In the small At Tanim flats above the shops, the warm dark gap behind a fridge or water dispenser is enough to hide a nest you never see.

A tap carrying water droplets

Water before food

They seek moisture before crumbs: the leaking taps at the shops' washing points, the pilgrims' water coolers and the wet eatery floors pull them in first.

A dimly lit kitchen at night

What you see at night

One roach crossing your kitchen after dark, in a district whose shops never quieten, means dozens more tucked into the building's cracks through the day.

How we work

  1. 1

    Inspect and identify

We work through the kitchen, the bathrooms and the drain runs, and establish the species, the harbourage points and the moisture keeping them there.

  2. 2

    Treat the harbourage

Gel bait into joints and cracks, targeted spray where it is warranted, and dust in the dry voids behind appliances.

  3. 3

    Close what can be closed

We point out the gaps, the drain entries and anything needing a plumber, because exclusion does more to stop a return than repeating the spray.

  4. 4

    The follow-up visit

We come back once the surviving egg cases have hatched, check the points and re-treat where needed.

What cockroach control includes

  • A technician inspecting with a flashlight

    A recorded inspection

Species, harbourage points and moisture sources, established before anything is applied.

  • A gloved hand applying bait into a joint

    Placed gel bait

In cabinet joints, cracks and behind appliances, where the insect actually travels.

  • A spray nozzle in close detail

    Targeted spray where needed

On runways and junctions, never on preparation surfaces or open floors.

  • A metal floor drain

    Drain and entry treatment

Floor traps, shafts and pipe entries, which is where the larger species comes from.

  • A clean kitchen counter after treatment

    Aftercare instructions

Ventilation, what to cover, and when surfaces can be cleaned without undoing the work.

  • The visit report being written on a clipboard

    A scheduled follow-up

A set date after the first treatment, and re-treatment of anything still active.

Questions about this district

My flat is above an ihram shop and eatery. Can roaches come from below?

Usually, yes. The shop's storeroom and the eatery's kitchen downstairs are the breeding ground, and the cockroaches climb up through pipework and wall cracks. We will treat your flat, but be aware that a lasting result needs the commercial source beneath you treated as well.

Do the food carts near the miqat affect my building?

Yes. The surplus and overflowing bins behind the shops draw cockroaches to the base of the building, and from there they enter through the entrance doors and drainage. We treat those ground-level entry points and seal the cracks they use to reach the stairwell.

My neighbour treated only his flat. Will they move to mine?

Yes. In At Tanim's tightly packed blocks, flats share single runs of pipework and service shafts, so cockroaches flee the treated unit for the one beside it. Effective work follows the building's vertical column, not a single door, which is why we look beyond your flat alone.

Why do I see roaches at the water cooler first?

Because they need water more than food. The pilgrims' water coolers and their sweating pipes are a first point of attraction in At Tanim. We dry out the moisture sources and place bait along the path they take from the water to the kitchen.

Does the constant pilgrim traffic make the problem worse in my flat?

The passers-by themselves do not carry them, but the services that meet that traffic, the restaurants, water coolers and bins, run without a break beside the miqat. It is that constant activity below your building, not the crowd, that keeps cockroach numbers high around you.

I live in an old building near the mosque. What is different?

The older buildings near the At Tanim mosque have more cracked walls and tiling, and their pipework is older and leakier. Those cracks are daytime hiding places for cockroaches, so we seal them and treat the shared service shafts as well as the inside of your flat.

How much does cockroach control in At Tanim cost?

It is set after the inspection, because the price follows the type of infestation, the size of the space, how far it has spread and the number of visits it needs. Send a photo and a description on WhatsApp and we will give you an estimate before we reach At Tanim.
