Hajun Street and packed buildings on narrow lanes

Hajun Street is narrow and apartment blocks line both sides directly with no setback. Ledges are very close to vehicles and pedestrians. Pigeons stand on high ledges and droppings fall on the street and ground floor shops together.

The second reason

Furnished flats and very intense seasonal turnover

Most flats are furnished and rented to pilgrims and Umrah visitors seasonally. Seasonal occupancy is very high and flats empty and fill rapidly. Pigeons nest during vacancy periods and hunt for alternate perching sites when flats fill.

Small mosques and daily religious activity

Small neighbourhood mosques sit between buildings along the streets, with daily prayer activity. Food scraps may spill from the buildings and shops surrounding the mosques. Pigeons arrive to eat crumbs and seeds from the mosque courtyards.

Survey the roof and the facade

We walk the roof, the projections, the condenser platforms and the shafts, separate the nesting positions from the perching ones, and measure and photograph every ledge.

Strip the nests and treat the parasites

Droppings are wetted before they are lifted so nothing goes airborne dry, bagged closed, and the nest position is treated for ticks and mites before the surface is sanitised.

Close and fit

Netting tensioned on a perimeter wire with no gap at the corners, spikes or wire on the narrow projections, metal mesh across vents and shafts, and the roof drains freed of the nest material packing them.

The follow-up visit

We come back to check the tension, the corners and any position the flock has moved to, and correct what has slackened before a bird finds it.

Nest removal and drain clearing

Lifted wet rather than swept dry, bagged closed, and the roof drains freed of the nest material packing them.

Questions about this district

The flat is furnished and let seasonally; do current tenants need to approve before fitting?

We contact the flat owner and property manager. Current tenants do not object because they do not want pigeons and droppings. If the flat is vacant we fit deterrents without delay.

The street is very narrow and the ledge sits close to cars and pedestrians; is fitting safe?

Yes. We fit during specific hours or close the street temporarily if needed. Workers and equipment operate quickly and ledges are not very high on Hajun Street.

The mosque is beside the flat; does fitting affect worshippers?

Fitting is on the flat or neighbouring shop ledge, not the mosque. Equipment and deterrents do not affect the mosque. We choose times outside prayer if possible.

Pigeons stand on power lines above the street near the flat; will deterrent fitting stop them?

Power lines are not ours to fit. We fit on ledges, balconies and shops. The power authority is responsible but we may suggest they fit frames.

The flat is old and the ledge has cracks; will deterrents work?

Cracks give pigeons extra nesting spots. We clean the ledge, remove droppings and fungi then fit deterrents based on condition. We may seal cracks with silicone first.

Souq Al Utaybiyah is very close; do pigeons come from the market?

Yes. Market pigeons may move to nearby flats. We focus on protecting your flat with ledge and balcony deterrents. Souq Al Utaybiyah may need separate treatment.
