Droppings are wetted before they are lifted so nothing goes airborne dry, bagged closed, and the nest position is treated for ticks and mites before the surface is sanitised.

Close and fit

Netting tensioned on a perimeter wire with no gap at the corners, spikes or wire on the narrow projections, metal mesh across vents and shafts, and the roof drains freed of the nest material packing them.

We come back to check the tension, the corners and any position the flock has moved to, and correct what has slackened before a bird finds it.

Questions about this district

My flat is directly above a ground-floor shop. Do pigeons nest in the gap?

Yes, the void between the shop's metal ceiling and the flat's concrete floor is a perfectly protected nesting space. The shop provides food and the flat above provides shelter, so this combination is ideal for pigeons to settle.

Does every resident in the apartment block need building committee approval?

If the roof is shared by all residents then yes, the committee must approve and share costs. If you have rights to part of the roof you may be able to treat your section alone without full committee agreement.

Shops below me and flats above me are all dirty from droppings. Whose fault is it?

The owner of the flat where pigeons actually nest is primarily responsible. But if droppings fall from other roofs, responsibility is shared between all roof owners.

Will spikes fitted to the roof edge spoil how the apartment block looks?

Modern thin metal spikes fit the ledge and are barely visible from street level. Transparent horizontal netting is even less noticeable than nests and droppings would be.

We removed the nests but pigeons returned within a week. Why?

Removing nests alone does not solve the problem unless you seal the nesting positions with a physical barrier. Pigeons return and nest in the same spot if they find no deterrent blocking them.

The district is mixed with many neighbours. Will they refuse to fit deterrents?

Some neighbours will agree because they suffer from pigeons too. It is best to consult everyone and explain the problem and solution, as many do not know effective and safe methods exist.
