The shop beneath the flat

Where homes sit over a shop, the German cockroach usually originates in the shop's store or back kitchen, not in your own. So we treat the meeting point: the shared wall, the pipe penetrations, the service duct that links the two. Treating your kitchen alone leaves the nursery downstairs untouched.

A villa is not a flat

Villas here have their own garden drainage and outdoor gullies, while the flats share one vertical stack. So a villa is inspected from its perimeter, its garden and its inspection chambers inward, whereas a flat is inspected from the joints it shares with its neighbours and the shop below. The same street asks for two different surveys.

The third reason

New build, older habits

As a newer expansion east of Haramain, Al Shuruq mixes recent villas with older blocks. In the new villas the cockroach rarely comes from the structure itself: it arrives in second-hand furniture, in the drawers of a used appliance, or in moving cartons. In the tighter Al Shuruq flats the gap behind the fridge backs onto a wall shared with a neighbour or the shop, so it works as a corridor, not just a hiding place.

Water before food

One water source is enough: in the villas it is garden irrigation, and in the flats a leak under the sink that may be shared with the home next door.

Questions about this district

The shop below my flat has roaches. Is treating my flat alone enough?

Treating the flat on its own gives short relief, but while the shop beneath stays an active source they will come back up the pipework. We seal the routes they climb at the wall and pipe penetrations, and we advise treating the source point itself so the result holds.

Does the treatment cover the villa garden and outside?

Yes. On a villa we inspect the perimeter, the garden and the inspection chambers, because the American cockroach climbs in from the outdoor drainage and from irrigated ground. We treat those entry points so it is stopped before it reaches the inside of the villa.

A neighbour in my building sprayed and now they came to me.

Treating one flat in a block on its own pushes cockroaches along the vertical stack into the next flat rather than killing them. The better route is to coordinate the connected flats together; failing that, we seal your flat's openings and place bait at the points where they cross over.

I moved into a new villa with used furniture. Is that the cause?

Very likely. The German cockroach travels inside furniture drawers, used appliances and moving cartons. In a newly built villa we check those items first, because fresh construction is rarely the source itself; the infestation usually arrived with what you carried in.

Do roaches move between the shops and flats along the street?

On the commercial strips of Al Shuruq the shops connect to each other and to the flats above through shared walls and pipe runs, so cockroaches move both sideways and upward. That is why we trace the line of spread rather than treating the one affected flat in isolation.

Is the method different for a villa and a flat here?
