The block's kitchens carry the German cockroach up the riser; the villa's American cockroach comes from the garden and street drains. We read each home on its own, not on whatever the street is known for.

The second reason

Older fabric, deeper harbourage

The blocks nearest the old Makkah road were built before the outlying districts, and their pipework and wall cracks have settled with age. Egg capsules sit inside those voids where a surface spray never lands, so we place bait into the crack itself rather than coating the wall around it.

Flats stacked above each other share a kitchen pipe riser, so cockroaches move vertically between floors. Treating a single flat is not enough while the source sits in the one next door, which is why the follow-up visit matters more here: it closes off what crossed back through the shared column.

My villa garden backs onto the old Makkah road. Where do they get in?

In villas the American cockroach comes up from the garden drains, inspection chambers and the sewer line, then enters under door thresholds and floor gullies. We treat the outside drains and close those routes before the kitchen, because here the problem starts outdoors rather than at the worktop.

My flat is in an older block. Is the pipework why they keep coming back?

Older pipework linking the flats is both a permanent route and a source of damp. A surface spray is not enough on its own. We place bait at the pipe openings and treat the cracks around the pipes, so the path they return along is cut rather than just wiped down.

I'm on the ground floor by the old Makkah road. Does that make it worse?

The ground floor sits closest to the street drains and inspection chambers, so it is more exposed to the American cockroach coming in from outside. We concentrate on door thresholds, floor gullies and the pipe outlets at ground level, entry points that do not trouble the upper floors in the same way.
