In a tight flat the fridge is pushed hard against the wall, so the space behind it stays warm and dark beside the water pipe. It is one of the first spots we check here.

Water before food

A cockroach can go without food far longer than without water. In old buildings a leak under the sink or around the heater is enough for it, so we dry the damp source before we lay bait.

Questions about this district

Is it enough to treat only my flat in a shared block?

Often not on its own, if the source sits in a shared pipe or in the flat next door. We still treat your flat and seal the routes cockroaches use through the walls and pipework into it, which cuts down how many new ones arrive.

My neighbour sprayed and now I have more, why?

That is common in walls this close. A spray drives cockroaches out rather than killing the nest, so they cross to the nearest flat, often yours. The fix is to treat the source with bait, not to chase them, and to seal the shared cracks between the two flats.

Can cockroaches come up through the drains?

Yes, the large American cockroach especially, which climbs from the old sewer runs beneath the block. We fit or repair drain covers and treat the entry points in the bathrooms and kitchen, so it cannot keep returning from the network.

I am on the ground floor, is my case worse?

Ground-floor flats sit closest to the drain network and the sump, so the American cockroach reaches them sooner than the upper floors. In these flats we pay closer attention to pipe entries, floor gullies and the yard than we would higher up.

Can they arrive with boxes and second-hand goods?

Yes. The German cockroach hides in cartons, bags and used appliances, and that is a common way it enters crowded flats. Check what comes into the home, and do not store empty boxes near the kitchen, since they make an ideal hiding place for eggs.

Should the neighbours in the building treat at the same time?

In a crowded block with shared pipes, treating several flats together cuts off the cockroaches' movement between them and holds longer. We do not require it, but if you can coordinate with the neighbours, it works far better than treating one flat in isolation.
