Cockroach control in Al Ukayshiyah Makkah
Al Ukayshiyah is a district under works. The sewerage and paving projects along its streets disturb the old drain network, and that pushes American cockroaches up through floor gullies and manholes into ground floor homes. Where informal buildings have been part demolished, whatever survived moves next door, travelling along pipes that were run through walls and never sealed. That is the job here.

Why they keep coming back in Al Ukayshiyah
What we notice in Al Ukayshiyah is that a surge of the large drain roaches tends to follow work on a nearby street or sewer line, rather than anything building up inside the kitchen itself. The method is set out in full on the full Cockroach control page.
The drain comes before the kitchen
The sewerage work running through the district opens up lines that American cockroaches have long settled in, and they climb out looking for shelter. So here we start at the floor drains and manhole surrounds before we open a single kitchen cupboard, because in Al Ukayshiyah the source is usually below ground, not on the worktop.
Pipes that were never sealed
A lot of Al Ukayshiyah was built in stages, with pipework pushed through walls and the gap around it left open. Those openings are permanent runs between one flat and the next, so we seal and treat them rather than just misting a surface that the roaches simply walk around.
A wave arrives when a building comes down
When a nearby informal building is cleared, its cockroaches do not vanish with it. They move to the closest occupied home, arriving in a wave off open ground. We plan for that by hardening the outer entry points and the cracks a displaced colony uses, so the next clearance next door does not become your problem indoors.
The species and the place decide the method
Much of the district's drainage is being rebuilt. Opening the old sewer lines unsettles the American cockroach colonies that live below ground, and they head for the nearest opening indoors: a floor drain, a manhole cover, a bathroom outlet that no longer seals.
German cockroach
The German cockroach settles in Al Ukayshiyah's crowded kitchens and breeds inside the flat itself, close to warmth and moisture. It has nothing to do with the drainage works outside, so it is treated as an indoor problem.
American cockroach
The American cockroach is the big, obvious one here. It climbs up from the opened sewer lines and manhole shafts and enters ground floor flats through the first damp gap it finds, a floor drain or a loose outlet.
Appliance heat
The heat from the motor behind the fridge or under the water heater gives a cockroach steady warmth, and in the small flats common across the district that corner becomes the strongest breeding point.
The gap behind the fridge
The gap behind the fridge brings warmth, crumbs and drops of water together in one place. We check it first, because in Al Ukayshiyah homes it is the roach's favourite hiding spot after dark.
Water before food
A cockroach looks for water before food. With the district's older pipework and the seepage around joints and connections, it finds constant moisture that keeps it going even when the kitchen has been cleaned.
What you see at night
What you see on the wall at night is usually an American cockroach that has come up from the drains. A sudden jump in numbers after street works points to a source outside the home, not inside it.
How we work
-
1
Inspect and identify
We work through the kitchen, the bathrooms and the drain runs, and establish the species, the harbourage points and the moisture keeping them there.
-
2
Treat the harbourage
Gel bait into joints and cracks, targeted spray where it is warranted, and dust in the dry voids behind appliances.
-
3
Close what can be closed
We point out the gaps, the drain entries and anything needing a plumber, because exclusion does more to stop a return than repeating the spray.
-
4
The follow-up visit
We come back once the surviving egg cases have hatched, check the points and re-treat where needed.
What cockroach control includes
-
A recorded inspection
Species, harbourage points and moisture sources, established before anything is applied.
-
Placed gel bait
In cabinet joints, cracks and behind appliances, where the insect actually travels.
-
Targeted spray where needed
On runways and junctions, never on preparation surfaces or open floors.
-
Drain and entry treatment
Floor traps, shafts and pipe entries, which is where the larger species comes from.
-
Aftercare instructions
Ventilation, what to cover, and when surfaces can be cleaned without undoing the work.
-
A scheduled follow-up
A set date after the first treatment, and re-treatment of anything still active.
Questions about this district
Will the sewer works in our street make the roaches worse?
For a while, most likely yes. Opening the lines drives the old colonies up towards the surface. We concentrate on sealing the floor drains and manhole surrounds around your home so they cannot get in during the works, and we re-inspect once the stage nearest you is finished.
The building next to us was demolished, will its roaches come to us?
Yes. A clearance drives cockroaches off the open ground towards the nearest occupied home. So we harden the ground level doors and windows and the outer cracks facing the empty plot, and place bait at those entry points before the wave reaches you rather than after.
Our cockroaches are large, where are they coming from?
A large body usually means the American cockroach, and its source is the sewer lines below ground, not your kitchen. We trace the nearest manhole or floor drain and treat the route it climbs, instead of only spraying what you happen to see inside the flat.
Our flat is on the ground floor near the ring road, does that change things?
It does. A ground floor flat is the closest point to the drains and the open ground, so it meets the American cockroach first. We give the lower entry points, the bathrooms and the kitchen outlets more attention, and seal the gap under the external doors that it uses to come in at night.
The building's pipes are shared and old, is treating my flat alone enough?
Shared pipework means the cockroach travels between flats through the joints that were never sealed. We treat your flat and close its openings, but the result holds far better when the treatment also reaches the common meeting points: the light wells and the vertical pipe runs the whole building shares.
Does the dust from the paving works affect the treatment?
It can. The dust thrown up by the paving gangs settles on surfaces and weakens how well a spray sticks, so we lean more on bait placed inside cracks and openings, which stays effective despite the dust. If the works near you run on, we come back and refresh it.
How much does cockroach control in Al Ukayshiyah cost?
It is set after the inspection, because the price follows the type of infestation, the size of the space, how far it has spread and the number of visits it needs. Send a photo and a description on WhatsApp and we will give you an estimate before we reach Al Ukayshiyah.
