Why they keep coming back in Al Wurud

The first reason

The shop beneath the flats

Many Al Wurud blocks carry a restaurant or grocer on the ground floor, and that unit is a permanent German cockroach reservoir. Spray a flat above it and you clear the visible insects for a while, but until the source in the shop is treated, fresh arrivals keep climbing the pipework into the same kitchens.

The second reason

Villas are a different job

The villas in Al Wurud are not the same problem as its flats. There the trouble is the American cockroach, arriving from garden inspection chambers and the septic line rather than a shop below. We start outside, at the drains and the chamber lids, and work inwards to the kitchen rather than the other way round.

The slot between fridge and wall in a flat kitchen is dark, warm and close to a riser coming up from the shop, so it is the first place we inspect and bait.

Water before food

A cockroach can go without food far longer than without water. In Al Wurud flats a leaking sink trap or a dripping window unit will hold it long before any crumb does.

What you see at night

One cockroach crossing the kitchen tiles after the light goes off means dozens hidden in the cracks. In an Al Wurud block the source is usually below you, not on your floor.

Questions about this district

There is a restaurant below my flat, is that the cause?

Very likely. A ground-floor food unit is a standing German cockroach reservoir, and the insects climb shared pipes into the flats above it. Your kitchen will not settle until the source inside the shop itself is baited and the routes they use to climb are sealed.

Do you treat villas and flats the same way?

No. In a villa we begin outside, at the garden chambers and the septic line where the American cockroach gets in, then work towards the kitchen. In a flat above a shop we focus on the kitchen and the risers carrying insects up from below. Al Wurud has both kinds of home.

My neighbour sprayed their flat, so why did they come to me?

Because treating one flat alone tends to push the cockroaches through the shared pipes into the flat next door rather than kill them. In an Al Wurud block we treat the whole vertical run at once, not a single flat, otherwise the problem just circulates between neighbours.

I bought second-hand furniture for my villa, could it bring roaches?

Does being close to the two main roads make it worse?

The frontages on King Fahd Road and Prince Majid Road are crowded with eateries, grocers and their bins, an ideal breeding setting pressed right against the residential entrances. That is why we always link activity in the ground-floor units to the complaints coming from the flats above.

Does watering the villa garden have anything to do with roaches?

Yes. Irrigation moisture and water pooling around garden beds and inspection chambers draw the American cockroach and keep it near the house. We set the outdoor water points right and treat the septic chamber before we ever move inside to the villa kitchen.
