The first reason

New furnishings arrive from damp infested warehouses

Furnished flats here let seasonally and furnishings move to storage between holidays and seasons, storage is damp year round and may be infested, thick foam and old fabrics hide dormant eggs and pupae, when furnishings return to flats infestation arrives with them directly and immediately.

The second reason

Pilgrims arrive from distant cities possibly carrying fleas

Pilgrims arrive from homes in different cities and regions, any may carry fleas in clothing or luggage or on skin, fleas transfer to carpet and furniture in the first night in the flat, the next pilgrim occupying the same unit finds infestation already established and active.

The third reason

Gaps between closely packed blocks are damp and shadowed

Blocks in Al Andalus stand very close, narrow streets between them trap shadow and moisture from blocked sunlight all day, foundation cavities provide damp safe environment for fleas, treatment must focus on underground voids more than open spaces, and sheltered areas extend survival after treatment.

Al Andalus is relatively new construction on level ground but buildings stand very close together with high moisture in foundation cavities. The narrow street between blocks traps shadow and dampness year round. The Third Ring Road brings dust and exhaust fumes that settle on building surfaces.

The base of the carpet

Carpet base in furnished flats may be very old and never replaced between seasons, harbouring massive protected flea populations deep in thick pile and foam that light vacuuming cannot reach.

Where the animal sleeps

Pet animals are rare in rented furnished flats, but pilgrims may arrive with moisture in clothing and footwear from their journey, fleas travel easily on clothing and bags and transfer to carpet very quickly.

Flea dirt

Flea dirt collects in thick carpet, pillows and under furniture in vast quantities, invisible without close inspection with light because dust and fibre accumulation conceals it from casual observation.

Furniture edges and upholstery

Edges of old furniture, mattresses and settees in furnished flats harbour protected flea populations in foam cavities, chemical treatment under every edge and seam is essential and unavoidable.

Joints in a hard floor

Floor gaps between levels and cavities in walls separating flats provide safe passages for fleas to move between units. Treatment must include injection into cavities, casual surface spray is insufficient.

Damp shade outdoors

Damp shaded areas outside flats in tight gaps between closely packed towers offer perfectly safe refuges for fleas especially after treatment. Year round moisture and darkness allow extended survival in shelter.

How we work

Inspect and confirm

We confirm it is fleas rather than another biting insect, and fix the animal's sleeping points, its routes and the shaded ground outside. Where there is no animal in the house, we look for the host they came from.

Treat the floors and soft furnishings

A residual with an insect growth regulator, worked into the carpet base, the floor and wall junction and the edges under furniture. The regulator stops a larva becoming an adult, which is what breaks the cycle.

The host and the shade outside

We treat the shaded ground and the outdoor lying spots, and we agree with you that the animal's veterinary treatment happens on the same day, because any host left out of the job re-seeds the floor.

Vacuuming, then the follow-up visit

Repeated vacuuming vibrates the floor and draws the pupae out onto a treated surface. We come back about two weeks later to take the emerged generation before it lays.

Yes, rented furniture is stored in damp warehouses between seasons, thick foam and old fabrics may hide dormant eggs and pupae. If not inspected before use, infestation may enter the flat with the furniture directly on installation.

The Third Ring Road is very close, do fleas come from the street?

The road itself does not carry fleas, but stray animals on the road may enter the district at night, animals may sleep in cavities between towers and under buildings, transferring fleas to foundations and underground spaces.

Do fleas travel between flats above and below each other?

Yes, gaps between floor slabs and holes in separating walls provide passage for fleas to move between storeys, especially if the lower flat is infested from old furniture or a previous pilgrim. Treatment needs coordination between vertically adjoining units.

How often per year does a seasonal district like this need treatment?

During season you may need treatment before Hajj and before Ramadan, and treatment after every complete flat vacancy and furniture changeover, pressure is very high in Al Andalus because of rapid turnover and continuous furniture cycling.
