We confirm it is fleas rather than another biting insect, and fix the animal's sleeping points, its routes and the shaded ground outside. Where there is no animal in the house, we look for the host they came from.

A residual with an insect growth regulator, worked into the carpet base, the floor and wall junction and the edges under furniture. The regulator stops a larva becoming an adult, which is what breaks the cycle.

We treat the shaded ground and the outdoor lying spots, and we agree with you that the animal's veterinary treatment happens on the same day, because any host left out of the job re-seeds the floor.

Vacuuming, then the follow-up visit

Repeated vacuuming vibrates the floor and draws the pupae out onto a treated surface. We come back about two weeks later to take the emerged generation before it lays.

A shop needs a return visit in the third or fourth week. If the shop is warm all the time, the flea life cycle runs a little faster. We inspect tight corners, angles and cracks carefully.

Can fleas come from a neighbouring shop, not the one directly below?

Yes. If an adjacent shop is warm and harbours rodents, fleas crawl through the shared party wall cracks. We pay close attention to the boundary between your home and any adjoining commercial space.

Should I clean the shop floor before or after treatment?

It is better to clean the shop and remove debris before we arrive, as grime can shield the floor from treatment. After treatment, wait two days before heavy cleaning, and use water only, no additional pesticides.
