Fly control in Umm Al Salam Jeddah
Umm Al Salam sits in south eastern Jeddah on Old Makkah Road, a popular old district with close set homes and daily shops and services, next to Al Harazat and Al Mahamid on the lorry route to Makkah. High population density, ageing pipes and incomplete drainage create ideal fly breeding conditions.

Why they keep coming back in Umm Al Salam
Flies in Umm Al Salam originate chiefly from ageing drainage and leaking pipes and standing water in narrow streets rather than from the buildings themselves. The method is set out in full on our Fly control service.
Old pipes and leaking drainage
The district is old and sewerage pipes are very aged and cracked, with possible leaks of standing water in streets and homes. Stagnant water and exposed drainage provide ideal fly breeding habitat.
High population density and narrow lanes
Umm Al Salam is densely populated with closely set buildings and narrow lanes, and refuse may collect in tight gaps. Small bakeries and restaurants scatter everywhere, supplying fly food sources.
Land clearing and reorganised zones
Parts of Umm Al Salam were cleared and reorganised under the informal settlement programme, and there may be small excavations and vacant plots around the project site. These areas may temporarily harbour flies until completely cleaned.
Umm Al Salam on the map
Umm Al Salam sits about 4.5 km from Al Harazat and about 4.5 km from Al Mahamid.
Open in Google MapsWhere the flies are actually coming from
A densely populated district with close set buildings and narrow lanes, old cracked sewage pipes, and drainage that may run open in parts of the area, with closeness to Makkah Road bringing additional contamination.
House fly
House flies dominate Umm Al Salam because of high density, refuse in homes and streets.
Blow fly
Blow flies are present but in lower numbers, house flies are the main problem.
Fermenting residue
Fermenting residue builds rapidly in narrow lanes and gaps between buildings.
The bin base
Bin bases may be hard to access and collect water from rain and leaking drainage.
The film inside a drain
Drain film forms rapidly in old pipes, especially if cracked.
The service door and its mesh
Service doors and screens are important on vents to prevent flies entering from street and drains.
How we work
-
1
Inspect and trace the source
We trace the flies back to their medium: waste and the bin area, floor traps, drain runs and any standing organic wetness, and we identify the species from its size, its flight and where it settles.
-
2
Treat the breeding medium
Washing and scouring bin bases and floor traps, and a foam that treats the film inside the pipe, because removing the medium is the only thing that stops production.
-
3
Treat the resting surfaces
A fly spends most of its time settled on ceilings, cables, the tops of walls and the sunlit wall outside the door, and that is where the residual and the bait go, not into the air.
-
4
Proofing and the follow-up
We close the ways in and sort out the screens and the doors, then come back on a date matching the emergence of the pupae that were already in the medium on the first visit.
What fly control includes
-
A source tracing inspection
The species, the breeding medium and the route in, established before anything is applied.
-
Drains and floor traps
Scouring the film stuck inside the pipe and treating it with foam, which is where drain flies come from and almost nowhere else.
-
Residual on the resting surfaces
Ceilings, cables, the tops of walls and the sunlit wall outside the door, kept off food preparation surfaces.
-
Fly bait in protected positions
An attractant bait set at bin areas and service entrances, out of reach of children and pets and away from food.
-
Aftercare instructions
Ventilation, what to cover, and what needs a screen, an air curtain or a different waste routine.
-
A scheduled follow-up
A set date matching the emergence of the pupae, and re-treatment of any source still producing.

Questions about this district
Are ageing pipes a primary fly source in Umm Al Salam?
Yes, old cracked sewage pipes supply continuous fly sources. Stagnant water and leaking drainage underground provide ideal development habitat.
Does exposed drainage help flies spread?
Yes, very much so. Open channels and standing water in streets provide ideal conditions. Flies breed rapidly in such circumstances.
Should pipe renewal be part of the solution?
Yes, fly treatment alone will not solve the problem if pipes are leaking. Pipe renovation or repair is necessary for long term control.
Why does high population density help flies in Umm Al Salam?
Density means more waste and refuse and standing water, and more fly sources. Narrow lanes reduce ventilation and cleaning.
Does clearing land for reorganisation improve or worsen the fly situation?
It may worsen temporarily because of excavations and vacant plots, but after the project finishes and the site is cleaned, the problem will reduce.
Do Umm Al Salam's narrow streets make treatment harder?
Yes, narrow streets reduce ventilation and spray treatment reach. Treatment requires entering homes and tight gaps rather than treating open streets.
How much does fly control in Umm Al Salam cost?
It is set after the inspection, because the price follows the type of infestation, the size of the space, how far it has spread and the number of visits it needs. Send a photo and a description on WhatsApp and we will give you an estimate before we reach Umm Al Salam.
