Why they keep coming back in Al Falah

The first reason

Subdivisions and vacant plots under construction

Al Falah is ringed by subdivisions under development and empty land, and exposed excavations and loose earth draw rodents out of the open environment. Rodents dig tunnels and damage foundations, and the new cracks they create give geckos a route inside.

The second reason

Fresh cracks from ground settlement and construction

New buildings settle differently in their first year as the ground beneath them changes, and earth movement from digging around the district opens cracks in foundations and walls. Fresh cracks are easier for geckos to exploit than old weathered ones.

Rest houses, camps and small resorts dot the edges of Al Falah, and food waste attracts flies and crawling insects. Insects spread from the facilities into the neighbouring villas.

How we work

Inspect at night and find the source

We come at the hour it is actually moving, and establish which wall face it is living on, which lights are gathering its food, the entry points and the crevices it wedges into by day.

Treat the food source

We treat the flying and crawling insects on the wall faces, around the perimeter and around the lighting. Once the food goes, the wall stops being worth staying on.

Close the openings and clear the crevices

We seal the air-conditioner sleeve, screen the vents and drain outlets, deal with the underside of doors, and place a repellent in the crevices and behind panels so they move out before anything is closed.

The follow-up visit

We come back once the glued eggs have hatched, check the seals held, and re-treat any wall face where activity has returned.

Taybah sub municipality covers the newly built districts of north east Jeddah along Al Haramain Road and Asfan Road. New villas and apartment buildings stand among vacant plots, building sites and half finished subdivisions. Al Hamdaniyah is the oldest and densest part with its markets and shops, while Al Furusiyah, Al Bashair, Al Rahmaniyah, Al Falah and Al Salihiyah are mostly recent. Why do geckos enter new villas in Al Falah so readily?

Does ongoing construction around Al Falah bring new geckos?

Is an emerging district more exposed than a completed one?

Yes, emerging districts carry higher pressure from rodents and insects because construction work disturbs them. But the pressure drops once building activity ends and the subdivision fills.

How often must we treat an emerging district like Al Falah?

In the first year treatment is needed every two or three months. Once construction around the district finishes the need drops to treatment every four months.

Must we treat the garden around the villa in Al Falah?

Gardens supply water and insects, and the gecko hides in them by day. Replacing bare soil with gravel instead and reducing watering cuts both insect numbers and gecko activity.
