Why they keep coming back in Al Sanabil

The main expressway and commercial shops lining it support large insect populations, and geckos are attracted first to the shops and villas nearest the road where night lighting concentrates them. The method is set out in full on what Gecko control involves.

The first reason

The expressway is a constant source of insects

Al Laith Road runs through the district carrying night lights, traffic and airborne debris. The night lighting attracts millions of small insects and moths. These migrate from the road towards nearby homes and shops. Villas and flats on the western side closest to the road receive higher gecko numbers because they stand nearest the insect source.

The second reason

Roadside shops create an attraction point

Al Rida Mosque, Al Usaimi Mosque and Al Sanabil Park sit near shops on the road. These shops provide constant food. Geckos arrive at night when lights are on and stock is accessible. When the shop closes, the gecko may migrate to the flat upstairs or to a neighbouring villa depending on conditions and alternative shelter.

The third reason

Surrounding older districts resupply Al Sanabil

Al Huda, Prince Abdul Majeed and Al Ajawid are relatively older quarters surrounding the new district. These may already carry established gecko populations. Geckos migrate from these older areas into Al Sanabil because new homes offer superior shelter. This means gecko pressure here stays high continuously.

Before treatment

The food, the opening and the crevice decide the method

The district sits on the Al Laith expressway between Al Ajawid to the north and the Industrial City to the west, with public green spaces including Al Sanabil Park providing year round humidity and insect life.

How we work

Inspect at night and find the source

We come at the hour it is actually moving, and establish which wall face it is living on, which lights are gathering its food, the entry points and the crevices it wedges into by day.

Treat the food source

We treat the flying and crawling insects on the wall faces, around the perimeter and around the lighting. Once the food goes, the wall stops being worth staying on.

Close the openings and clear the crevices

We seal the air-conditioner sleeve, screen the vents and drain outlets, deal with the underside of doors, and place a repellent in the crevices and behind panels so they move out before anything is closed.

The follow-up visit

We come back once the glued eggs have hatched, check the seals held, and re-treat any wall face where activity has returned.

Questions about this district

Do geckos come directly from Al Laith Road itself?

Geckos do not live on the road itself, but the insects attracting them do arrive under the road's night lighting and shopfront lights. Geckos migrate from older residential districts towards the road's shops and from there move into neighbouring villas and flats.

Why is Al Sanabil worse than Al Huda if it is newer?

Al Sanabil is new but surrounded by older districts. Geckos migrate from those quarters into the new homes. Purely new districts with no elderly neighbours offer better shelter only if they are distant from migrant sources.

Does treating one shop on the road help the flats above it?

One treated shop among dozens of other shops will not stop geckos. They will move to the adjacent untreated shop instead. The real benefit comes from treating the flat above that shop itself, with retreatment every three weeks.

Does Al Sanabil Park worsen the gecko problem?

Yes. The park provides moisture, insects and shelter. Geckos arrive from the park at night towards villa lights. A villa next to the park will need more frequent treatment than a home further away.

When will we need a second treatment in Al Sanabil?

First treatment removes current residents. Second treatment is needed two weeks later when glued eggs hatch. After that, retreatment every three weeks during spring and summer when migrants increase from older districts.

Do the vacant plots in nearby Al Huda bring geckos to Al Sanabil?

Yes. Empty land provides moisture, insects and hideouts. Geckos shelter there by day and migrate towards lights and food in Al Sanabil at night. A villa adjacent to vacant plots will need preventive treatment every two weeks.

How much does gecko control in Al Sanabil cost?
