Gecko control in An Nawwariyah Makkah
An Nawwariyah is a north western neighbourhood near the Fourth Ring Road, a mixture of villas, apartments and wide vacant plots between the buildings. The district sits at Makkah's gateway from the north along the Madinah road and holds a large hospital, a public park and low-lying ground. Geckos are present everywhere: in the vacant land and park, in scattered villas and apartment blocks.

Why they keep coming back in An Nawwariyah
Wide vacant land holds moisture longer than buildings do, insects settle easily, and geckos come from every direction seeking water and food. The method is set out in full on how we approach Gecko control.
Vacant ground and standing water after rain
An Nawwariyah has wide areas of vacant land with depressions that hold water after rain. Standing water gathers insects, mosquitoes, mites and tiny worms in vast numbers, and geckos descend from villas and apartments every night to hunt.
Hospital, park and continuous night-time lighting
The large hospital is lit all night, and the public park is lit too. The lights attract millions of tiny insects around the park and hospital, and geckos move from neighbouring buildings to hunt these lights every night.
Spacing between villas and apartments, and low boundary walls
Villas and apartments are very widely spaced with gardens and vacant land between them, and the walls between them are low or poorly built. Geckos move easily from villa to villa across walls and open ground with no obstruction.
The character of An Nawwariyah
Mixed district: shops at street level with homes above them
An Nawwariyah is a mixed neighbourhood combining buildings, vacant land and damp zones, so treating your villa alone may not stop geckos if the vacant ground, park and hospital around it go on attracting insects without interruption.
The food, the opening and the crevice decide the method
Wadi An Nawwariyah, known as Wadi Saraf, runs through the district and holds rainwater in depressions. Around the hospital and park there are damp zones that create ideal conditions for insects to gather.
The house gecko
Geckos sleep in soil cracks and in vacant ground all day, emerging at dusk to seek insects around lights and water.
Outdoor lighting
The lights around the hospital, park and streets burn all night, drawing insects by the million. Geckos move between all these lights hunting every night.
Window mesh
Window mesh may be tight but gaps around air conditioning and pipe openings are unshielded. Geckos slip in easily through these gaps.
The air-conditioner sleeve
Air conditioning vents on external walls open directly onto vacant ground and the park with no protection. Geckos climb from the ground and enter through these vents.
Meter boxes and electrical panels
The electrical distribution box outside the villa generates heat and draws insects. Geckos will stand nearby hunting every night.
The garden and the irrigation
Vacant ground around the villa, if damp or with a high water table, gathers insects and worms. Geckos descend from the villa to hunt there.
How we work
-
1
Inspect at night and find the source
We come at the hour it is actually moving, and establish which wall face it is living on, which lights are gathering its food, the entry points and the crevices it wedges into by day.
-
2
Treat the food source
We treat the flying and crawling insects on the wall faces, around the perimeter and around the lighting. Once the food goes, the wall stops being worth staying on.
-
3
Close the openings and clear the crevices
We seal the air-conditioner sleeve, screen the vents and drain outlets, deal with the underside of doors, and place a repellent in the crevices and behind panels so they move out before anything is closed.
-
4
The follow-up visit
We come back once the glued eggs have hatched, check the seals held, and re-treat any wall face where activity has returned.
What gecko control includes
-
A recorded night inspection
Wall faces, lighting, entry points and egg sites, all established before anything is applied.
-
Treating the insects on the walls
Targeted treatment around lighting, windows and the building perimeter, because the food is what keeps it there.
-
Placed repellent in the crevices
Behind panels, in wall joints and at the ceiling-void entries, where it sits out the day.
-
Screening vents and drain openings
Shafts, vents and the condensate outlet, which are entry points nobody looks at.
-
Aftercare instructions
Ventilation, what to cover, and the change to the outside lighting that stops the insects gathering again.
-
A scheduled follow-up
A set date after the first treatment, a check on the seals and re-treatment of anything still active.
What is different about Al Umrah Sub-Municipality
Al Umrah sub municipality covers the north west of Makkah along the Madinah road and the old Jeddah road, from At Tanim and Masjid Aisha to An Nawwariyah. Its districts are the city's newest, villas and apartment blocks raised on wide schemes where large tracts in Al Umrah Al Jadidah, Al Fayha and Al Buhayrat remain vacant or under construction. Wadi Saraf and Wadi At Tanim run through it and rainwater gathers on unfinished schemes, ihram shops, restaurants and coach stops along the Madinah road serve a constant flow of pilgrims, and villas fill Al Hamra and Umm Al Jud.
Questions about this district
Is the gecko coming from the wadi or from the neighbouring buildings?
From every source combined: the wadi provides water and insects, the hospital and park provide light and insects, and the villas and apartments around the area provide shelter and openings.
Will cleaning up the vacant ground drive the geckos away?
It may reduce their numbers but not drive them away. The wadi, hospital and park will go on attracting insects, and geckos will come as long as gaps exist in the villa.
If the villa is close to the park, is the risk higher?
Much higher. The park is lit all night and attracts insects by the million. Geckos descend from the park to scale the villa every night.
After rain when do geckos arrive in greatest numbers?
Immediately after rain, insect and gecko numbers spike. Water in vacant ground and wadis attracts millions of insects from everywhere.
Does treating one villa protect it from geckos coming from the wadi?
Treating the villa stops entry through gaps, but if your neighbour leaves his villa untreated or the vacant ground is open, geckos may come from there.
Does the vacant ground itself need treatment?
The vacant ground is too extensive to treat completely, but treating the villas and apartments around it and sealing gaps and walls between them is usually sufficient.
How much does gecko control in An Nawwariyah cost?
It is set after the inspection, because the price follows the type of infestation, the size of the space, how far it has spread and the number of visits it needs. Send a photo and a description on WhatsApp and we will give you an estimate before we reach An Nawwariyah.
