The baseline survey

We walk the outside boundary and then the inside: gaps under doors, pipe runs, vents, condensate lines, drains, the bin area and the store, and we fix the monitoring points before anything is applied.

Close the routes

Mesh on the vents, the gap under the door dealt with, the sleeve around a pipe run closed, and water put back into the drain nobody uses. Exclusion saves a spray that would otherwise repeat forever.

The band and the placed product

A residual band at the base of the wall outside and around door and window openings, with placed product inside joints and closed voids where it is warranted, and no open spray across living surfaces.

We read the points to see which side is under pressure, renew the band where sun or irrigation has taken it, aim the visit at what the coming season opens up, and write down what was found and what was used.

What is different about South Sub-Municipality

The South sub municipality runs from the edge of Old Makkah Road down to Al Khumrah and the southern corniche. Dense residential districts sit beside new subdivisions such as Al Sanabil and Al Taawun, warehouse fringes such as Al Saruriyah and Al Sarawat, and an old seaside settlement at Al Quzayn. Open stormwater channels cross the housing, and the warehouses, the vegetable and livestock markets and the nearby Islamic Port and Industrial City give pests shelter, food and year round humidity. Pressure is greatest in the older quarters, where drainage networks are ageing.

Is the shop owner below responsible for insects in my flat above?

Not legally, but often the shop is the source. If the owner refuses to cooperate we focus on preventing entry from below by sealing gaps and cracks around shared pipes.

How often do we visit Al Fadl if construction starts on the plot next door?

We increase visits above the normal schedule. During excavation and fill we liaise with the property owner to monitor new pressure and adjust the programme every two weeks if needed.

Are monitoring points placed in the shop and the flat separately?

Yes. Points go in the shop storeroom, near the fridge and the entrance, with separate points in the flat's hallway and kitchen. We compare the readings at each visit to see which space is under more pressure.

If we treat only the flat above, should we expect trouble with the shop?

Yes. Pressure from the shop will not stop. The shop must be in a separate programme, or we must seal the boundary between them completely.

Do crawling insects from the street enter the shop or the flat first?

Both simultaneously. Crawling insects enter from the street at the base of the external wall and gaps around doors. We focus on the external band and the ground floor gaps where entry pressure is highest.

What stops insects getting in when the shop door opens for customers?

We cannot completely prevent entry when the door is open, but the programme cuts numbers sharply. We focus on preventing them reaching the damp sheltered places where they hide and breed.
