What is different about South Sub-Municipality

The South sub municipality runs from the edge of Old Makkah Road down to Al Khumrah and the southern corniche. Dense residential districts sit beside new subdivisions such as Al Sanabil and Al Taawun, warehouse fringes such as Al Saruriyah and Al Sarawat, and an old seaside settlement at Al Quzayn. Open stormwater channels cross the housing, and the warehouses, the vegetable and livestock markets and the nearby Islamic Port and Industrial City give pests shelter, food and year round humidity. Pressure is greatest in the older quarters, where drainage networks are ageing.

Questions about this district

If there are rats in the shop below my flat, must I treat the flat too?

Yes. Rodents climb from shops into flats through internal walls and shared ceilings. Even if you see no rodents in your flat yet, they are likely already inside walls or ceiling voids. Both shop and flat must be treated as one connected system.

Are villas in Al Wazeeriyah better protected against rats than apartment blocks?

Villas may be slightly easier to treat because they are separate structures. But if villas stand close together and share gaps in side walls or roof structures, rodents readily move between them. Building layout and construction quality matter more than building type.
