The South sub municipality runs from the edge of Old Makkah Road down to Al Khumrah and the southern corniche. Dense residential districts sit beside new subdivisions such as Al Sanabil and Al Taawun, warehouse fringes such as Al Saruriyah and Al Sarawat, and an old seaside settlement at Al Quzayn. Open stormwater channels cross the housing, and the warehouses, the vegetable and livestock markets and the nearby Islamic Port and Industrial City give pests shelter, food and year round humidity. The shop below us is open all day and water drips under our flat. Is that the source?

Yes, certainly. Water from the shop drips into the voids below the flat and floor level. This water is in a dark tight space far from air flow, so it breeds quickly. We must treat the voids below your flat and check the shop drainage below.

A shared stair connects us to shops and other units through different openings. Do we need to treat there?

Yes, we must treat the stair and the openings around pipes, wires and the voids under the steps. A mosquito from another shop can reach your flat through the shared stair if we do not treat it.

The gaps between shops and our flat are constantly damp. Is there a solution?

The tight dark gaps between shops and flats trap moisture. They cannot dry completely but we can treat surfaces and walls deeply to stop mosquitoes sheltering in them.

Is treating just the flat enough, or must we treat the shop below as well?

The flat alone will not solve it because mosquitoes enter from the shop and shared voids. We need to agree with the shop owner to treat the gaps between you. If he refuses we can at least treat the openings and doors that face the flat.

Our flat is small and simple. Why are there so many mosquitoes?

A small flat in a mixed district is more exposed because the shops and shared voids are very close to the bedrooms. Even a small clean flat is not protected from mosquitoes from the nearby shop.

Do you treat the cars parked in front of shops and flats?

Parked cars block sun and air from the gaps between them and the building. We treat the voids around and below the cars. We do not spray the car itself but the space around it.
