Villas in Al Asalah sit on ground not yet settled, and gaps under the foundation provide safe shelter for snakes. The soil around a new villa is easy to penetrate, so snakes enter from the least protected side. Half built neighbour's plots mean snakes move between construction sites unobstructed.

The second reason

Open land surrounding each home

The vast space between villas harbours rodents and geckos that snakes hunt in the open. Sealing the house alone is not enough if the surrounding land remains infested with the prey species that attract snakes. Perimeter treatment of the plot must come before interior sealing.

Inspect and locate

We work the perimeter, the garden and the service rooms with a torch and a mirror, reading the tracks, the skins and the burrows to establish whether it is still on site and where it came in.

It comes out on a hook and tongs into a closed container and is released away from buildings where that is possible, with no chasing it around a room.

Close the routes, take away the shelter

A strip under the gate, sleeves around pipe entries, tight covers on the floor drains, and the blocks and palm fronds moved off the wall line.

Cut the food, then come back

We treat the rodents and the geckos on the perimeter, then return once that activity has settled to check the sealed points and look for any fresh track.

Questions about this district

The new villa's plumbing is not yet fitted. Do open pipes and incomplete drainage attract snakes?

Open pipes and unfinished drain pits offer direct passages. Snakes enter through them and may hide inside them. Sealing openings temporarily and treating the surrounding ground is essential before plumbing installation is complete.

The ground beneath our villa is damp from construction water and temporary irrigation. Does this increase snakes?

Moisture attracts worms and insects that feed snakes. Pooled water also attracts rodents. Good drainage and dry soil around the foundation significantly reduce the problem.

The vacant plot next to us is stacked with concrete blocks and cement bags. Must the perimeter be treated?
