Al Misfalah sub municipality runs downhill from the south of the Grand Mosque through Al Misfalah, Kudai and Al Rawabi to Al Taqwa, Al Hindawiyah, Al Khalidiyah and Al Rusayfah at the third ring road. The northern end is old apartment blocks and pilgrim hotels with restaurants along Ibrahim Al Khalil Street and the huge coach parks at Kudai. The south and west are dense popular districts with countless small shops and unplanned hillside housing, some of it already cleared for redevelopment, giving way to orderly land grant schemes in Al Rusayfah beside the railway station.

Questions about this district

Is the public garden beside the house the main reason snakes are common?

The public garden provides ideal conditions for rats and insects but is not the only cause. Snakes arrive if food exists in the house too. If a house holds rats or insects, the snake will come even without a public garden nearby.

Should we seal every gap between new land grants and old houses?

Yes. Every gap and opening between houses of different ages must be sealed. Gaps between new foundation level and old building foundations are large and need specialist treatment.

Should we leave the vacant ground bare or plant it to reduce snake risk?

Vacant ground provides cover for rats and snakes alike. To reduce risk, clear dense vegetation or build a clear boundary fence with no gaps beneath it. Planting may increase risk, not reduce it.

Do snakes come from vacant ground only during the rainy season?

Snakes inhabit vacant ground year round, but rain draws rat populations faster, increasing snake activity towards homes. Autumn and winter are usually the highest risk periods.

Is the old house next to a public garden and new plots at higher risk?

Yes significantly. An old house surrounded by a public garden, new land grants and vacant ground faces very high risk. Old house gaps are larger and the public garden provides constant food.

After removal and sealing, must we treat the public garden too?

We cannot control the public garden, but sealing all gaps between the house and garden is sufficient. The garden itself is the municipality's responsibility, and co-ordinating with them may help but is not essential to protect your home.
