Cockroach control in Al Khalidiyah Makkah

Al Khalidiyah, in southwest Makkah, is really three neighbourhoods at once: newer plots from residential land grants, older traditional houses, and a large unplanned stretch, all sitting on the same street. That mix changes the work. Informal drainage in the lanes feeds American cockroaches, while the cracked block walls of the older houses give German cockroaches permanent harbourage, so no single off-the-shelf treatment fits the whole street.

  • Targeted, not broadcast

Product goes into cracks and runways, never sprayed across open surfaces.

  • Told before we start

What we will use, where it goes, and what to cover or move before we arrive.

  • A follow-up visit

We return after the first treatment, because what survives it does not show on the day.

  • Homes and businesses

Apartments and villas, and kitchens and stores that need a record of each visit.

Why they keep coming back in Al Khalidiyah

In the unplanned lanes of Al Khalidiyah, kitchens often sit right against a drain opening, so American cockroaches climb up after dark into a spotless home whose own source is next door, not inside. The method is set out in full on what Cockroach control involves.

The first reason

Informal drainage ties the houses together

In the unplanned zone, houses built wall to wall share improvised drain runs, so treating your kitchen alone leaves the source sitting in the shared line. We work the drain openings and manholes around the building, not just the walls inside it.

The second reason

The old block walls of traditional houses

The traditional houses here are built in older block, and around the collars of ageing pipework and the cracks in the plaster the German cockroach finds a permanent harbourage that a surface spray never reaches. We put bait into those voids instead.

The third reason

Two species on one street

When a new grant villa, a traditional house and an unplanned dwelling sit on the same street, you can meet the German cockroach in the kitchen and the American from the drains at once. So we identify the species in each home before choosing how to treat it.

Before treatment

The species and the place decide the method

A large part of Al Khalidiyah grew up outside the planning grid, so its drainage is informal and often shared between houses built wall to wall. Those connected runs are an easy corridor for American cockroaches to move from one home to the next.

A small light brown German cockroach

German cockroach

The German cockroach spreads through the connected kitchens of the grant homes and traditional houses, travelling along shared pipe collars from one kitchen into the one that backs onto it.

A larger dark cockroach on a wooden surface

American cockroach

The American cockroach comes up from the informal drainage and manholes of the unplanned lanes, climbing into the kitchen through the floor drains after dark rather than breeding indoors.

An oven and gas hob beneath wooden shelving

Appliance heat

In the narrow kitchens of the older traditional houses, the warmth behind the fridge and oven gives the roaches a heated pocket where they can lay eggs out of sight.

A kitchen with a fridge; the gap behind it is a classic nest

The gap behind the fridge

The gap where the fridge stands against an old block wall is dark, warm and damp, and it is the first place we check in a traditional kitchen here.

A tap carrying water droplets

Water before food

Before it looks for food a cockroach looks for water, and leaking old pipework and the damp under the sinks in these traditional houses supply it around the clock.

A dimly lit kitchen at night

What you see at night

What you see at night in the Al Khalidiyah lanes is usually an American cockroach that has crossed from a drain, not proof that the source is inside your own home.

How we work

  1. 1

    Inspect and identify

We work through the kitchen, the bathrooms and the drain runs, and establish the species, the harbourage points and the moisture keeping them there.

  2. 2

    Treat the harbourage

Gel bait into joints and cracks, targeted spray where it is warranted, and dust in the dry voids behind appliances.

  3. 3

    Close what can be closed

We point out the gaps, the drain entries and anything needing a plumber, because exclusion does more to stop a return than repeating the spray.

  4. 4

    The follow-up visit

We come back once the surviving egg cases have hatched, check the points and re-treat where needed.

What cockroach control includes

  • A technician inspecting with a flashlight

    A recorded inspection

Species, harbourage points and moisture sources, established before anything is applied.

  • A gloved hand applying bait into a joint

    Placed gel bait

In cabinet joints, cracks and behind appliances, where the insect actually travels.

  • A spray nozzle in close detail

    Targeted spray where needed

On runways and junctions, never on preparation surfaces or open floors.

  • A metal floor drain

    Drain and entry treatment

Floor traps, shafts and pipe entries, which is where the larger species comes from.

  • A clean kitchen counter after treatment

    Aftercare instructions

Ventilation, what to cover, and when surfaces can be cleaned without undoing the work.

  • The visit report being written on a clipboard

    A scheduled follow-up

A set date after the first treatment, and re-treatment of anything still active.

Questions about this district

Do the cockroaches come from the informal drainage in our lane?

In the unplanned parts of Al Khalidiyah the drainage is improvised and sometimes open, which is ideal breeding ground for the American cockroach. So we do not stop at treating inside the house: we treat the drain openings and gullies it climbs up through as well.

My home is a new grant build and next door is old. Will they cross over?

Yes, especially if the two houses adjoin and share a wall or a drain line. A cockroach does not respect the property boundary, so it moves through the shared pipework from the older house into yours. We factor in the state of the immediate neighbours when we plan the treatment.

Our traditional house has old cracked walls. Do they need special treatment?

The cracks and the collars around old pipework are where the German cockroach shelters permanently, and a surface spray never reaches them. We put bait into the void itself, and once activity drops we advise sealing the visible cracks so they cannot become harbourage again.

There is a drain manhole near our kitchen. Is that the source?

In this district it very often is. A manhole close to the kitchen is a direct route the American cockroach climbs at night. We inspect and treat the manhole and the gullies around it, because treating only inside the kitchen leaves the door it comes in by wide open.

Our house sits at a low point in the valley where water collects. Does that matter?

Southwest Makkah is valley and slope, and houses on the low ground hold water and damp around them for longer. That moisture draws cockroaches to the perimeter of the building, so we look at how water drains around the structure, not just at what is happening inside it.

Our neighbour's unplanned house is untreated. Is treating ours pointless?

Treating your home protects it, but if the source sits in an adjoining dwelling that shares the drainage, they can reappear. That is why we concentrate on the entry points, the drain openings and the shared cracks, and place bait at them to intercept whatever crosses from the other side.

How much does cockroach control in Al Khalidiyah cost?

It is set after the inspection, because the price follows the type of infestation, the size of the space, how far it has spread and the number of visits it needs. Send a photo and a description on WhatsApp and we will give you an estimate before we reach Al Khalidiyah.
