Snake control in Harat Abu Zayd Jeddah
Harat Abu Zayd is one of Thuwal's nine quarters on the Red Sea coast north of Jeddah, where traditional popular building stands beside new concrete housing. Coastal moisture, salt and sand provide shelter for snakes, and the old buildings are split by deep cracks and large gaps. New buildings were built quickly beside the old ones without thorough treatment.

Why they keep coming back in Harat Abu Zayd
Harat Abu Zayd mixes old traditional building with modern concrete, and coastal moisture, salt and sand create an ideal environment for snakes. The method is set out in full on the full Snake control page.
Coastal moisture and salt directly attract snakes and rodent colonies
The Red Sea beside the quarter supplies permanent moisture and salt in the air. Coastal rodents need moisture, and snakes track these rodents. Moisture and salt create an ideal environment for coastal snakes.
Traditional old building is split by deep cracks and very wide gaps
Old houses in Abu Zayd were built in traditional ways, and cracks between stones are very wide. Snakes shelter in these fissures and move down through the lower floors freely.
Modern buildings were constructed beside old ones without thorough treatment
New development stands beside old houses, and the new buildings were rushed. Snakes sheltering in the old houses transfer easily to adjoining modern buildings through gaps.

One of the nine quarters of Thuwal, a fishing town on the Red Sea coast north of Jeddah, containing Thuwal Corniche, and King Abdullah University of Science and Technology.
A shed skin
Coastal snakes leave shed skin in cracks between stones and gaps between houses.
The track in the sand
In sand and salt accumulation around houses, snakes leave very clear movement trails.
Block and rubble piles
Piles of stones and old materials around houses provide shelter for snakes.
The gap under the gate
Gaps beneath doors and gaps between old and new houses are the main entry routes.
Rodent burrows
Coastal rodent burrows in cracks and gaps supply year round snake food.
A leaking irrigation line
Salt moisture and coastal humidity around walls create ideal conditions that attract snakes.
How we work
-
1
Inspect and locate
We work the perimeter, the garden and the service rooms with a torch and a mirror, reading the tracks, the skins and the burrows to establish whether it is still on site and where it came in.
-
2
Safe removal
It comes out on a hook and tongs into a closed container and is released away from buildings where that is possible, with no chasing it around a room.
-
3
Close the routes, take away the shelter
A strip under the gate, sleeves around pipe entries, tight covers on the floor drains, and the blocks and palm fronds moved off the wall line.
-
4
Cut the food, then come back
We treat the rodents and the geckos on the perimeter, then return once that activity has settled to check the sealed points and look for any fresh track.
What snake control includes
-
A recorded site inspection
Perimeter, garden, service rooms and pipe entries, with tracks and skins recorded before anything is applied.
-
Drains and entries closed
Tight covers on floor drains, sleeves around waste and air conditioning pipe runs, and the weep holes in the boundary wall closed.
-
Rodent work around the building
Closed bait stations on the rodent runs, because cutting the prey is what makes the site stop suiting them.
-
Perimeter treatment down the food chain
Insects on lit walls hold the geckos, and geckos feed some species, so we treat the chain from the bottom up.
-
A perimeter housekeeping list
What to move off the wall line, how low to cut the ground cover, where the lighting sits, and what to do if you see another one.
-
A scheduled follow-up
A set date to check the sealed points, the rodent stations and any new track in the sand.

Questions about this district
Does Red Sea moisture directly attract snakes to the quarter?
Yes very directly. Coastal moisture and salt create ideal conditions for coastal rodents, and snakes track rodents. The sea beside the quarter means continuous snakes.
Do old houses and deep cracks really provide excellent snake shelter?
Absolutely. Traditional old construction has wide cracks, and snakes shelter comfortably in them. Gaps between stones are very safe havens.
Do gaps between old and new buildings allow snakes to move between them?
Yes markedly. Gaps between old and new houses provide safe passages for snakes. A snake moves from an old house into a new one through these gaps.
Does salt and coastal moisture increase different snake species?
Yes. Coastal conditions provide habitat for different snake species. Salt and moisture attract specific coastal snake types.
Is treating one house sufficient if neighbouring houses are all old?
Treating one house is necessary but not sufficient. If adjoining houses are old with cracks, snakes will attempt entry through shared gaps.
How long does complete treatment of one quarter in Thuwal require?
Treatment of a complete quarter takes considerable time because houses are numerous and cracks are very wide. Treatment of a single house takes several hours minimum.
How much does snake control in Harat Abu Zayd cost?
It is set after the inspection, because the price follows the type of infestation, the size of the space, how far it has spread and the number of visits it needs. Send a photo and a description on WhatsApp and we will give you an estimate before we reach Harat Abu Zayd.
