Why they keep coming back in Kudai

What the site tells us before we start

A low-lying zone on the slopes of Jabal Khandamah where rainwater has historically pooled on uneven ground. Open-air storage yards and workshops maintain damp conditions where rodents and insects thrive, drawing the snakes that feed on them.

Reptiles leave distinct tracks on wet tarmac around the car parks, especially after rain when rodents search the standing water and expose their movement patterns.

How we work

Inspect and locate

We work the perimeter, the garden and the service rooms with a torch and a mirror, reading the tracks, the skins and the burrows to establish whether it is still on site and where it came in.

Safe removal

It comes out on a hook and tongs into a closed container and is released away from buildings where that is possible, with no chasing it around a room.

Close the routes, take away the shelter

A strip under the gate, sleeves around pipe entries, tight covers on the floor drains, and the blocks and palm fronds moved off the wall line.

Cut the food, then come back

We treat the rodents and the geckos on the perimeter, then return once that activity has settled to check the sealed points and look for any fresh track.

Perimeter, garden, service rooms and pipe entries, with tracks and skins recorded before anything is applied.
Drains and entries closed

Tight covers on floor drains, sleeves around waste and air conditioning pipe runs, and the weep holes in the boundary wall closed.

What is different about Al Misfalah Sub-Municipality

Al Misfalah sub municipality runs downhill from the south of the Grand Mosque through Al Misfalah, Kudai and Al Rawabi to Al Taqwa, Al Hindawiyah, Al Khalidiyah and Al Rusayfah at the third ring road. The northern end is old apartment blocks and pilgrim hotels with restaurants along Ibrahim Al Khalil Street and the huge coach parks at Kudai. The south and west are dense popular districts with countless small shops and unplanned hillside housing, some of it already cleared for redevelopment, giving way to orderly land grant schemes in Al Rusayfah beside the railway station.

Questions about this district

Do snakes enter our storage yard from the ground or climb the walls?

Both are possible. Rodents nest in broken ground level foundations, and snakes enter through those gaps. They also crawl up external walls or use drainage channels if they are exposed.

Our store is an open air yard with no walls. How does a snake enter it?

An open yard means snakes do not need entry points at all. The food present attracts them and shadows beneath containers offer shelter. We inspect the entire yard and identify small animals that draw snakes.

Will snakes climb the ropes and chains on containers and trucks?

Yes, readily. If containers and trucks provide warm, sheltered platforms, snakes use them for rest or to hunt from height.

We cleaned the entire storage yard thoroughly. Why did we see a snake afterwards?

Cleaning does not remove rats nesting in foundations and walls. So long as rats remain, snakes will arrive. We must treat the rodent population first before expecting the yard to stay clear of reptiles.

How do we stop snakes returning to the car park?

We seal gaps in foundations and fencing and remove exposed ground around pathways. Eliminating rodents and insects is essential. Request six-monthly inspections if the area remains open to the surroundings.

Can snakes reach our office inside Kudai Towers from the car park below?

If the gap between the towers and the park is open or water channels are connected, yes. The towers are better protected, but rats may arrive from outside, and where rats go, snakes follow.
