Ant control in Al Hindawiyah Makkah

Al Hindawiyah is a densely packed commercial quarter on the city's west side, lined with small shops and markets along narrow streets. Ants here track food from storage room to shop to the dwelling above, and unplanned construction leaves gaps and natural passages between adjacent buildings. Moisture from old pipes and spilled water on the pavement creates ideal conditions.

  • Targeted, not broadcast

Product goes into cracks and runways, never sprayed across open surfaces.

  • Told before we start

What we will use, where it goes, and what to cover or move before we arrive.

  • A follow-up visit

We return after the first treatment, because what survives it does not show on the day.

  • Homes and businesses

Apartments and villas, and kitchens and stores that need a record of each visit.

Why they keep coming back in Al Hindawiyah

Buildings are low-rise and very old, and unplanned structures have left voids beneath ground floors and irregular passages between shops and homes. The method is set out in full on how we approach Ant control.

The first reason

Small shops and packed storage rooms

Each small shop in Al Hindawiyah connects to a storeroom and living quarters above. Ants enter from the damp pavement and move first into the storeroom where grains and sweets are kept, then spread to the sales floor. Cracks between shops and buildings provide direct routes.

The second reason

Unplanned construction and floor voids

The quarter was built without regular planning and voids beneath ground floors are numerous and uncontrolled. Ants nest in these spaces and use them as highways between adjacent shops without barriers.

The third reason

Moisture from water and old pipes

Popular markets here contain juice stalls, small restaurants and fruit stands, and water spilled daily on pavements combined with leaking old pipes in aged walls provide constant moisture. This attracts both moisture-seeking and grease-feeding ants.

Landmarks of Al Hindawiyah

Access into Al Hindawiyah runs via Al Haramain main road and narrow side streets. The quarter is bounded by Al Mansour to the east, Al Khalidiyah to the south, Al Rusayfah and Al Nuzha to the west and Al Utaibiyah to the north.

The sweet feeders

Sugar feeders concentrate on storerooms and shops selling grain, sugar, dates, bread and sweets.

The grease and protein feeders

Grease and protein feeders live in poultry, meat and fish shops and in small restaurants above the retail floor.

The trail and its direction

The trail begins on the pavement and in floor voids, climbs internal walls and shared partition walls between neighbouring shops.

Moisture before food

Moisture is high from daily water spill in fruit and vegetable markets, juice stalls and leaking pipes in aged partition walls.

How we work

  1. 1

    Inspect and follow the trail

We follow the line from where you see it to where it enters, and establish the species, what it is feeding on and the moisture keeping the nest close.

  2. 2

Matched bait placed on the trail

We choose the matrix from the feeding preference and place it on the trail itself, leaving the trail intact so the workers carry it to the queen and the brood.

  3. 3

Treat the perimeter and close the ways in

An external treatment at the wall base and the openings, and we point out the cracks, pipe entries and any branch touching the building.

  4. 4

    The follow-up visit

We come back once the bait has worked through the nest, check the trail is gone, and look for a satellite nest if a new line has appeared.

What ant control includes

  • A technician inspecting with a flashlight

Following the trail to its source

Species, entry point and the direction of the nest, established before anything is applied.

  • A gloved hand applying bait into a joint

    Bait matched to the colony

Sugar or protein according to what the workers are carrying, placed on the trail rather than near it.

  • A spray nozzle in close detail

    An external perimeter treatment

A band at the wall base and the outside openings, with the indoor trail left unsprayed so it keeps carrying bait.

  • A metal floor drain

    Moisture points and entries

Condensate lines, sink surrounds, weep holes and pipe entries, which are what keeps a nest against the building.

  • A clean kitchen counter after treatment

    Aftercare instructions

What not to wipe until the bait has been taken, what to cover, and when normal cleaning can resume.

  • The visit report being written on a clipboard

    A scheduled follow-up

A set date to check the nest and re-bait anywhere still active.

What is different about Al Misfalah Sub-Municipality

Al Misfalah sub municipality runs downhill from the south of the Grand Mosque through Al Misfalah, Kudai and Al Rawabi to Al Taqwa, Al Hindawiyah, Al Khalidiyah and Al Rusayfah at the third ring road. The northern end is old apartment blocks and pilgrim hotels with restaurants along Ibrahim Al Khalil Street and the huge coach parks at Kudai. The south and west are dense popular districts with countless small shops and unplanned hillside housing, some of it already cleared for redevelopment, giving way to orderly land grant schemes in Al Rusayfah beside the railway station.

Questions about this district

Why is ant control harder in small shops than in larger ones?

A small shop links to a storeroom and living quarters above. The nest may lie beneath the floor or in a shared wall with the next shop, so treating the shop alone is insufficient.

Does pavement water attract a different ant type than those seeking grease or grain?

Yes, constant moisture attracts moisture-specialist ants. But the same shop may host two species if it has both a storeroom and running water.

If gaps exist between adjacent shops, does treatment cover the neighbouring shop too?

It may need to if the trail runs from one shop to the next. We trace the route first to determine whether the nest is shared or separate.

Does treating the pavement and outer wall stop ants without entering the storeroom?

It may stop them temporarily. But if the nest lies beneath the floor or in the storeroom itself, internal bait treatment is necessary.

Should old leaking pipes be fixed before or after treatment?

Before or alongside is better. Leaking pipes supply water that attracts ants. If fixed first, treatment acts faster.

How many adjacent shops may need treatment at the same time?

Could reach three or four shops if construction is joined and voids are shared. We determine this by inspection before starting.

How much does ant control in Al Hindawiyah cost?

It is set after the inspection, because the price follows the type of infestation, the size of the space, how far it has spread and the number of visits it needs. Send a photo and a description on WhatsApp and we will give you an estimate before we reach Al Hindawiyah.
