Why does street debris draw ants to the shop so quickly?

The street carries food scraps and litter from neighbouring shops. Ants follow the scent trail easily from the pavement into the shop through small gaps and poorly sealed doors.

Will sweeping the pavement in front stop the ants?

Cleaning is important but not sufficient alone. Ants return from other moisture sources or change route. We must locate the nest and cut the food supply with targeted bait.

Are the ants in the shop a different species to those in the flat?

They may be. Ants in shops forage for sugars, grease and protein from sales debris. In homes they focus on kitchen sugars and crumbs.

How often do we need treatment in a mixed-use building?

It depends on the severity. If ants cross between floors, we may need several visits in the first month to interrupt the transit routes.

Would moving the shop to a new location solve it?

If the nest sits in the sub floor or foundation, ants may persist. A move to a different building ends the problem only if ants are not already present there.
